"Auto Save On/Off".

Gameplay
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PUNCH THE MONKEY! is a rhythm action game following the mold of Parappa the
Rapper. The main game screen is broken up into three main areas. The first
area contains two progress bars; the top bar consists of five colored areas.
From left to right, they are red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. The second
bar is an level progress indicator.

The second area contains the music video of the level with an open area on
the left and right side of it.

The third area contains a bar with a crosshair in the middle.

As the music video plays, targets will scroll left to right across the
crosshair bar. Each target will have a circle, square, triangle, or X
indicating what button you must press to shoot down this target. You must
press the appropriate button when the target is within the crosshair. At
certain points in the level, the crosshair bar will expand to two crosshairs.
Targets will then fly from both the left and the right of the screen. The
target sequence for a level remains the same each time you play.

You get a rating for each target: Great, Good, Bad, or Poor. A "Great"
rating is given when you hit the target while it is dead center within the
crosshair. A "Good" rating is given is the target is hit anywhere else on the
crosshair. "Bad" and "Poor" are given if you hit the target outside of the
crosshair or press the wrong button.

If you manage to get three "Great" ratings in a row, a card will will appear
to the right or left of the music video. Each card is worth bonus points in
your final score; shoot them down before they leave the screen.

As the video progresses, you will see a bar move from left to right on the
progress indicator. There are also marks indicating a level checkpoint. At
each checkpoint, you must be in the yellow area of the top progress bar. The
only exception to this is the final checkpoint. To successfully clear a level,
you must be in the green or blue section when you clear the final checkpoint.

The level starts you off in the orange or yellow area; "Great" and "Good"
ratings push your progress indicator towards the green and blue areas. "Bad"
and "Poor" ratings push the indicator towards the orange and red area. If
your indicator reaches the end of the red area, the game is over. If you pass
a checkpoint while in the orange or red area, the game is over. The music and
video also begin to fade out as you move into the orange and red areas. The
music and video become more clear as you push your way back into the yellow
area.

Each level has four difficulties: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Blind. Each one
increases the difficulty of achieving a "Great" rating. The "Blind" difficulty
places a black bar across the crosshair including a small portion to the
left and right. You must time your shots carefully as you cannot see the target
enter the crosshair. "Easy" difficulty removes the blue portion from the top
progress bar.

At the completion of a level, you will be awarded a score. "Great" ratings
are worth ten points each. "Good" ratings are worth five points each. "Bad"
and "Poor" ratings are worth zero points. Cards are worth bonus points.
You also receive a level bonus if you were in the green or blue area after
crossing the final checkpoint. The green area is worth 2000 to 3000 bonus
points. The blue area is worth 4000 to 5000 points.

You can also unlock two addtional modes to play. Swap mode reverses the
targets you must press. Random mode is exactly what it sounds like; the
target sequence for the level is now random.

The bonus games allow you to build up coins. These coins can be used to
purchase movies.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guncon Support
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have a Guncon or a compatible light gun, you have additional gameplay
options open to you. Targets are now gold discs that you must shoot when they
are in the crosshair. To spice things up, the crosshair will shift randomly
to the right or left.

Bonus Game 1 now becomes an actual shooting gallery. Bonus Game 2 becomes
increasingly more difficult as you have to have great aim to hit the moving
ball.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bonus Game 1
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a shooting gallery game. Each level is comprised of a certain amount
of rounds. At first, the levels have five rounds with two rounds being added
every tenth level. At the beginning of each level, the face of a particular
character is shown. Five cards will appear face down every round; when the
cards are turned around, you must shoot all the cards that match the face for
that level.

You have only six shots before you have to reload. If you successfully
complete a level, you receive two coins times the level number. So, if you
complete level 10, you receive 20 coins. Missing a target or shooting the
wrong target costs you a heart. You start out with five hearts; once they are
gone, the game is over.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bonus Game 2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a breakout game. At the top of the screen are various items of
treasure. A set of bricks bar your way to the treasure at the top. You must
shoot the ball into the bricks to clear a path to them. As you progress
through the levels, various non-breakable bricks appear to further hinder your
progress.

At the bottom of the screen are bricks as well. If the ball hits these bricks,
it will slowly break them. Once a hole is opened up, the ball can fall through
it causing you to lose it. You have a total of three balls to use before the
game is over. There are only six shots for you to use before you have to
reload.

There are ten distinct levels. Once you clear all ten, you start back at the
beginning. Each item of treasure is worth different amounts of coins.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bonus Game 3
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a slot machine game. You can bet up to three coins per spin. Pull
the lever, and the three cards spin. Hit the buttons to stop each card.
Your winnings are determined by what cards appear.

One Zenigata card is worth four coins.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Movies
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you have built up some coins, you can start purchasing movies. There are
seven movies you can purchase, one for every level in the game. Once you have
bought a movie, you can watch it as many times as you would like. While
watching the movie, you can press buttons to apply "filters" to the movie.

Movie 1: 10 coins
Movie 2: 50 coins
Movie 3: 100 coins
Movie 4: 500 coins
Movie 5: 1000 coins
Movie 6: 2500 coins
Movie 7: 5000 coins
