 1) INTRODUCTION
-----------------

This is my first FAQ so don't blame me if it's not as u expected it to be.
Any advice or contribution are welcome, off course I'll give full credits.
So if u have any advice, any contribution or u did noticed something that's wrong please tell me
at my email address ,please put on the subject of the mail"DARKSTALKERS 3 FAQ".
Also sorry for any gramathical error but I'm italian and so... ^_^;;;
Then let's talk about the game.
This FAQ is for a game that went out on shops a few weeks ago, it's a Beat'em up from CAPCOM and
it's the american version of the game called "VAMPIRE SAVIOR EX".
This game first went out in arcades as the third episode of the Darkstalkers saga.
In arcades the game was called "VAMPIRE SAVIOR : THE LORD OF THE VAMPIRE" and a few time later it
also went out on arcades an "upgraded" version of this game with a few more character some more
moves and the chance to power up some EX moves during a Dark Force.
This "upgrade" was called "VAMPIRE SAVIOR 2" but, as I told u, it wasn't a real sequel.
VAMPIRE SAVIOR was also converted for SEGA SATURN, it was VAMPIRE SAVIOR only with a difference,
the new characters from VAMPIRE SAVIOR 2;for the rest was VAMPIRE SAVIOR and not VAMPIRE SAVIOR2.
The PSX version comes with a conversion from VAMPIRE SAVIOR 2.
So it have the new moves, the powerable EX moves and the new characters, it also have a new
(secret) character, Oboro Bishamon, also seen in arcades and in the saturn version.
The game has lots of options but as you go forward in playin' the game you'll eventually discover
2 secret menus, from one of this u can select the "type" of game, yes, u can select between
VAMPIRE SAVIOR, VAMPIRE SAVIOR 2, and VAMPIRE HUNTER 2!!!!!!
U can also select the music u want to be accompanied with, Default, Vampire Savior, Vampire
Savior 2 and Vampire Hunter 2.
>From here u can easily understand that the PSX conversion is the BEST OF ALL!!!! ^____________^

 3) HOW TO PLAY
----------------

When u first choose a character u will be asked some things:
Normal, Turbo, Auto, Auto & Turbo.

Normal  ===> Try to guess???
Turbo   ===> U fight at super speed, to regulate the speed of turbo mode increase or decrease the
             number of "stars" in the "TURBO" line in the OPTION menu
AUTO    ===> Your character will automatically block any attack
AUTO & 
TURBO   ===> Hmm, this is hard to guess... Isn't it???

Then u will be asked for if u want the D.F. Change (Dark Force Change) or the D.F. Power (Dark
Force Power).

D.F. Change  ===> This works as in Vampire Savior, when u do a Dark Force the background will
                  change and for a little time (showed by a decreasing time bar put under the
                  energy bar) your character will be granted with extra powers, for example
                  Jedah gain the ability to fly, Pyron will double himself etc.
                  As u may have thought this is like Dark Forces worked in Vampire Savior and so
                  they need only one power bar, u can do air combos whenever u want and u CAN'T
                  power up EX moves during D.F.
D.F. Power   ===> This works as in Vampire Savior 2, when u do a Dark Force the background will
                  change and for a little time (showed by the same time bar) your character will
                  be granted to do air combos (in this game mode u can do air combos ONLY during
                  a Dark Force) and the chance to power up certain EX moves.
                  Also the damage u inflict to your enemy during Dark Force cannot be recovered
                  (red bar) and your character will slightly recover energy.
                  Your character still can "power up" himself ad it could do with a Dark Force in
                  D.F. Change mode, but this time u'll only need to make a movement.
                  For example, in D.F. Change to make Pyron double himself u'd simply have to do
                  a D.F., instead in D.F. Power you'll have to do: D,F,DF,PP.
                  One level or your super bar will be used and Pyron will make a double of
                  himself who'll help him in attacking his foe.
                  If you finish a character, even with a normal attack, while "powered up" the
                  will consider it as an EX finish instead ad a Dark Force Finish as it does in
                  D.F. Change mode.
                  One difference is that in D.F. Change mode when you do a D.F. the special
                  effect on your character will end ONLY when the time bar it's empty.
                  Instead when u "power up" a character in D.F. Power mode the special effect
                  will vanish after a little time (as in D.F. Change mode) or when u are hitted
                  by the enemy.
                  Let's call this power up move only executable in DFP "DARK FORCE SPECIAL"
                  Another thing, in this mode u need 2 level of your power bar to make a D.F.
                  while only one is required for a DARK FORCE SPECIAL.
   


Unless other games this beat 'em up it's not played in separated rounds, but in one single long
round.
Under your energy bar is a BAT icon.
Every BAT icon represent a bar of energy that u have.
The energy bar doesn't represent your energy that when you've been hitten goes down, it represent
your damage, when you've been hitten the bar will increase a little.
The damage is divided in two categories, the red one and the white one.
The red damage it's not recoverable, instead u'll see that ad time passes and u've been not hit
AND u haven't been blocked any of your enemy's moves u'll see that the white bar gradually goes
down.
When your damage bar it's full of either white or red then one of your BAT icons will diseappear
and your damage bar will instantanealy go down to 0
Is' like a sort of round change.
In a classic beat 'em up u can select how to beat an enemy will be long by selecting the number
of rounds u have to win.
In DARKSTALKERS 3 u can select how many BAT icons u and your enemy will have, just increase or
decrease the "stars" in the "Damage Gauge" line in the OPTION menu.

TRW ==> Means that the move it's a Throw and so must be made near the opponent
UNB ==> Means that the move is unblockable
DIR ==> Means that the move change the direction it is executed depending on which button is used
        to perform it
EXP ==> Means that this EX move is powered up during Dark Force in DFP mode
*H ===> the number in the place of the * is the number of hits the move does



4.2) BASIC MOVES

DARK FORCE -  Each character has a unique Dark Force attack, when u select your character
              u can select between 2 type of Dark Force that represent 2 different modes of play.
              All the Dark Forces are performed the same way, by pressing a punch and a kick of
              the same power.
              In the Dark Force section I only putted the move to do in DFP to have the same
              "power up" your character would be given if he would have used a Dark Force in DFC.
              For more info see section "3) HOW TO PLAY".

    * D.F. CHANGE - With this option the game will be more like Vampire Savior.
                    It requires 1 level of you your Power bar to do a Dark Force.
                    Characters playin' in this game mode can do Air Combos whenever they want.
    * D.F. POWER  - With this option the game will be more like Vampire Savior 2.
                    Requires 2 level of your Power to do a Dark Force.
                    The damage u cause during a Dark Force cannot be recovered and during a Dark
                    Force your character's energy will recover.
                    Also certain EX attack became more poweful.

ES ATTACKS - These are enhanced version of special moves and they requires 1 level of your Power
             bar. To perform an ES simply do a special move pressing 2 punches or 2 kicks instead
             of 1.

EX ATTACKS - These extremely powerful moves require from 1 to 3 level of your Power bar.
             Each character has several EX ATTACKS.

GUARD CANCEL - While blocking an enemy's attack press:   f,d,df + p or k
               Your character will flash and make a counteratack.
               For more info on Guard Cancel of a specified character see its relative section.

ADVANCING GUARD - Similar to X-men vs. Street Fighter. While blocking an enemy's attack press
                  rapidly p or k. Your character will flash and push the enemy back.

DASH - press f,f or f,F or b,b or b,B rapidly.
       Move faster than with standard walk.
       Some characters have special dash.

BLOCK - Push the directional pad in the opposite direction of your foe.

AIR BLOCK - While in air push the directional pad in the opposite direction of your foe.

THROW - While close to your foe press: f or b + mk or hk or mp or hp.

RETREAT & STAND - When your character falls press: f or b + p or k.
                  With this u can avoid enemy's pursuit by rolling and standing up.

PURSUIT - When your enemy falls press: u + k or p.
          With this u can pursue and attack.
          You can even make this attack into an ES by pressing u + kk.

RECOVERY & ATTACK - While your character is dizzy press f or b + p or k.

DEFENSIVE FALL - When your enemy grabs your character press: f or b + mk or hk or mp or hp.
                 It will reduce the damage taken by falling defensively.
                 If u succeed in doin' a DEFENSIVE FALL "TECH. HIT" will appear and you'll take
                 some extra points as a bonus.

BASIC COMBO - from lk u can go to: lk,mk and mp
              from lp ===> lp,mp and mk
              from mk ===> mp,hp and hk
              from mp ===> mk,hk and hp
              from hk ===> hp
              from hp ===> hk

              Make your own combo following this scheme.

  - ??? is an air dash, its peculiarity is that it's a "homing" air dash, it will go towards the
    enemy
  - if "Qj" hits the enemy will be stunned for a little time, open for your attacks!!!
  - you can launch more than one "Qj" togheter, one time I had 4 honey ball togheter on screen!!!

  Mindless Doll ===> Creates a specular images of Lilith behind the opponent, similar to Morrigan

                     Instead if u press lk+lp or mk+mp for doing the dark force it will result in
                     a different one. Exactely it will result in the same effect as a Dark Force
                     Special.


NOTES:

  - "Soul Flash" has a very short range, be careful!!!!
  - "High Jump" is not a real move but, try to guess!!! ;)
  - "Mindless Doll" Dark Force Special is different from the standard DFC Dark Force
     It creates an image of Lilith who stays behind her and do every move Lilith does
  - After "Gloomy Puppet Show" you'll have to press button in different sequence, if you do more
    than 30 points extra damage will be inflicted!!!

  Pharaoh Split ===> Anakaris split himself in 2 different pieces who differentely attack the
                     the enemy, you're in control of the flying part.

NOTES:

  - Anakaris hasn't any trows
  - His Dark Force Special is the same as his DFC Dark Force
  - Wanna make a big laugh??? Then try to press select while holding all 3 punches button... :)
  - Hold select during "Pharaoh Magic" until the move has ended to see a different ending hit
  - With "Ihale" you can absorb enemy's long range attack, even if ES
    You CAN'T absorb rays attacks (like Huitzil's) ot EX attacks
    You can even absorb more than one move
    Then you can give back the move you absorbed with "Disgorge"
    If the move you absorbed can be made into an ES then you can too
    "Disgorge" has the same characteristics as the move you absorbed, so if the move can be done
    in air you can too
  - If your enemy has been hitten with "Royal Curse" then he will morph ridicoullosely and he
    will not be able to attack for a short amount of time
  - "Pharaoh Warp" must be done at the edge of the screen, it will result in a sort of teleport
    the other side of the screen

  Great Gerdenheim ===> If performed with lk+lp or mk+mp it will be the same as his Dark Force
                        Special, so Dr. Gerderheim will appear over his shoulder and every punch
                        will becam a special throw called "Great Gerdenheim".
                        Instead if performed with hk+hp Dr. Gerdenheim will still appear over
                        Victor's shoulders but it will give him the ability of making always
                        electrified attacks (more damage than standard electrified attacks).


NOTES:

  - "Great Gerdenheim" Dark Force Special: after u do this move sipmly go near the enemy and
    press p
  - "???" is a short jump forward
  - "Elektro Victor" is an electrified version of the normal attacks, for performing it instead
    instead of pressing a button simply press and hold mk or mp or hk or hp and the attack will
    be given with electricity around it
    It will do more damage and it will also inflict 2 points of guard damage
  - "Body Break" must be done just at the beginning of a standard trow done with mp or hp

DFC DARK FORCE DESCRIPTION

  Ocean Rage ===> During this Dark Force Rikuo will ride a strange fish, while riding it you can
                  move in any direction and you will not be stunned by enemy's attack.
                  U can leave the Fish or re-ride it simply by pressing kkk.
                  While not riding the fish EVEN if you're in a Dark Force you'll lose the bonus
                  of not bein' stunned and that one of moving in any direction, you'll regain
                  them onlu by pressing again kkk and re-riding that way the fish again.


NOTES:

  - should "Sonic Wave" hit the opponent it will leave him open for an attack
  - "Poison Breath" will stop the enemy, leaving him open for an attack
  - If you hold pp instead of pressing them during "Aqua Spread" you will delay the moment when
    the water geyser comes out from the ground
  - "Aqua Breath (homing)" is a homing version of "Aqua Spread"; the water geyser will explode
     just where the enemy is. This doesn't work if the enemy is too near
  - "Water Jail" will imprisonate your enemy in a rising bubble of water, it will give you the
    possibility to make a marvelous combo!!! ;)
  - while doin' the "Tongue Slam", the standard throw done pressing mp or hp, try to spedly tap
    on your pad the opposite direction of where the enemy is, you will do a double slam!!!

                              penguin will explode near Sasquatch, if you press mp the penguin
                              will explode a few steps near Sasquatch, if you press hp the
                              penguin will explode near the enemy
                   * mk+mp or lk+lp => Sasquatch will became Gold coloured and it will receives
                                       less damage and will recover more quickly. Sasquatch will
                                       be immune to be stunned as well

  Shinig Gemini ===> Pyron creates a clone of himself ho does certain moves (special or normal)
                     for every button pressed while Pyron attacks as usually.
                     Here follows a chart wich explains the moves the twin does, depending on the
                     button pressed;

                     Also, if you do an EX move the twin will mimic it perfectly but without
                     damage the enemy.

  - His Dark Force Special is the same as his DFC Dark Force
  - You can cancel "Galaxy Trip" into any other move, special or not; this mean that you can
    continue doing one "Galaxy Trip" after another, or cancel it into a "Soul Smasher" or even
    into a "Piled Hell"
  - "Cosmo Distruption" has 2 version, 1 with pp and 1 with kk.
    In the pp version the explosion starts before the enemy and end on him, in the kk version the
    explosion starts before the enemy and end behind him.
    While doing this move you can hold pp or kk instead of simply pressing them to power up the
    move

 5) SECRETS
------------

  - To unlock all images and the 2 secret menu simply "finish" a character in Original Character
    Mode.
    To "finish" a character u have to reach its last level, the level is showed by the bat icon;
    When all of your character's data have a "----" in the place of how many points are needed
    reaching the next level of power AND energy AND s.s. gauge it means your character is 
    "finished".
    Then if you go to the collection screen you'll see all the images (they're also accessible
    from PC) and if you go to the option menu and you'll press r1 or l1 you'll be in 2 different
    menus, respectively the EX OPTION MODE and the DX OPTION MODE.

  - Every character has a mid-game "boss", just like Street Fighter Alpha 2, to meet him I'm not
    sure how to do it but it should be like that:
    before the 5th or the 6th (doesn't remember ^_^;;;) you must have done 3 EX FINISH.

  - To meet OBORO BISHAMON you must never use continue, nor havin' selected AUTO or TURBO, havin'
    chosed your char with his/her first color and do 3 EX finish of a certain type.
    For example the bomb super for Hsien-Ko.
    I'll put the needed EX chart on the next version of this FAQ.

  - To select OBORO BISHAMON do like this:
    while your cursor is on BISHAMON hold select and press a button.
    OBORO BISHAMON has a different set of moves than the standard BISHAMON.

  - To select DARK J. TALBAIN / GALLON do like this:
    while your cursor is on J. TALBAIN / GALLON hold select and press a button.
    DARK is the same as normal made exclusion for the following things:
    * Different color
    * His dragon cannon is the same as it was in Night Warriors / Darkstalkers 2
    * He does a little (very little...) more damage.

  - To select SHADOW and MARIONETTE you have to put the cursor on the "?" and press the select
    button as showed beneath.
    For Shadow press 5 times the select button, hold it the last time you press it; while holding
    it press a button.
    For Marionette do the same as Shadow but press the select button 7 times instead of 5.
    SHADOW becames the last character u've beaten every time a new fight start.
    MARIONETTE becames your current opponent every time a fight start.
    Note that chosing DFP or DFC only applies to the first character you impersone if you chosed
    Shadow and doesn't applies if you chosed Marionette, infact you can't chose DFC or DFP if you
    selected Marionette ^_^;;;
