Avid Gamer's guide for Psychic Detective
Should work for the PC, 3DO and PlayStation version (created on the
PlayStation version) and most endings also tested on the 3DO version.

Various playing notes for all games:
ALWAYS choose your Cigarette unless you are trying to lose the game. Max
most likely can (and will) take just about every piece you have with it.
You MUST own your own fear ("scar")!

Also, I have noticed some differences between the 3DO version and the
PlayStation version. So far I have noticed:
There is no sex scene on the PlayStation version. It has been removed
apparently as I have NEVER seen it on the PSX version. It's easy to get on
the 3DO version...
At the beginning of the game, when following Al's guide, I noticed that
the part in the car where Eric and Laina are supposed to talk about the
green notebook has been removed. Why I'm not sure, but it might have
something to do with the sex scene. Maybe it's required to have the sex scene
later? Don't know. Anyway, they talk about Moki instead of the notebook...
Also, in the 3DO version, when you're near the end of the game, you can
save Monica. There is one place where you make Lance open the door and
he talks with Eric about it. Lance says "I want to do something special for
you" or similar. Eric responds by saying "Open the door". Then Lance shakes
his head (no) and says "even more special" or similar. Eric replies "Don't
get greedy". Lance then says "I can't help it" and laughs. That's the 3DO
version. In the PlayStation version, Eric says nothing. For some reason, they
removed Eric's responses. Maybe to make more space? Don't know...

Also, in the PlayStation version, you can save ANYWHERE and ANYTIME except
during the Black Diamond games. You cannot save at all in the 3DO version.
The game, however, does save your info at the end of each disc for the disc
change. So the only save 3DO owners have is at the beginning at the
current disc (which can be copied using Game Guru).

Avid Gamer's first walkthrough:

Jump to Chad's mind as soon as he becomes available.

Chad will turn and face you and you will return to you mind. Touch the
"Necklace" when Chad shows it to you. Tell Chad to "Get Lost". Touch the
"MQ Pin". Eric will talk to Sylvia and then go upstairs to the Study.
"Open Folder" when it becomes available. "Play Video" after Eric
says, "I got more than I bargained for". Chad will walk in and catch you
snooping around and will ask you to leave. You will go see Madame T now.
Touch the "Ballerina". Madame T will send you to check on Chad. Touch the
"Inkblot".

---DISK 2---

Choose "Help Me" when Laina is leaving your car. Moki will come up to your
car and try to get you to go with him. Choose "Follow Monica" when the
choice becomes available. Jump into Monica's mind.

Jump into Sylvia's mind.

Jump into Bobby's mind when it becomes available.

Jump back into Sylvia's mind when the reporter on the television says, "The
answer comes in a blue bottle". You will see Sylvia looking at the green
notebook she killed Chad for, which contains everyone's scars (Kite,
Ballerina, Doll and Weathervane) and Eric will learn that the Kite is Max's
scar. Jump back to Bobby when Jeanine comes back to the bar.

Moki will bring you back into your mind interrupting the action and give you
Laina's address. Eric will automatically go there. Choose "Collector". You
will burn yourself. Laina will have you read her mind. Then she will
activate the Collector. Do nothing and you will automatically be sent
into Monica's mind.

Jump back to Eric's mind immediately.

---DISK 3---

Jump into Lt. Grigg's mind when it becomes available.

Just wait and watch all of the possibilities for you to choose when/if you
play a new game without this guide. Lt. Griggs and his partner, O'Brien,
will meet and talk to the woman from the State Department. You will then be
released from jail.

Laina will take you to see Madame T. Choose "Lexi". Read Madame T's mind.
She will give you the pawn shop's address where the last Collector is at.
Laina will go in and get it. She will then activate it. Jump into Monica's
mind.

**** This section below is only for 3DO version players. If you're playing
the PlayStation or PC version, skip to the "Disk 1" section. ****

Note: If you're playing the 3DO version, use Game Guru and copy the game
save when it asks for disk 1. That saved game is a turning point for many
different endings. You MUST copy it BEFORE you beat the game or your saved
game will be automatically deleted by the game and you will have to start
over. This is what to do if you do not want to start over to see some of the
different endings:

Put in the Game Guru CD when the game asks for Disk 1. If you already have
the advanced features unlocked on your Game Guru, proceed to the file copying
section. If not, you must unlock the advanced features:

Choose "Enter Code". Choose the "GameGuru.CFG" file to patch. Enter this
code: "IHAVETHEPOWER". Choose "YES" to confirm. Advanced features are now
unlocked.

Note: The file names given below are only suggested names and can be named
anything you like.

To copy the file: Choose "File Related". Then choose "Copy" and select the
file called "PsychicDetective:BlackDiamond". Delete the letter "d" at the
end of the new file's name when naming it so it will have a different name
than the original. That file without the "d" will be your backup file to copy
from whenever the game deletes yours. When the game deletes your save, go
back into Game Guru and choose "File Related". Then choose "Copy" and copy
your backup file to a new file called "PsychicDetective:BlackDiam". Then
choose "Rename" and rename the file "PsychicDetective:BlackDiam" that you
just made back to "PsychicDetective:BlackDiamond" so the game will recognize
it. Now you're ready to play again.

---DISK 1---

You'll now be at Miragequest. Bookmark your place (save your game on the
PlayStation version) and put that memory card aside for later use. That saved
game is a turning point for many different endings. Also, bookmark your
save when Max is about to start the Black Diamond game with you (bookmark
when he says "and winner takes all"). That way, if you lose, you can restart
at the BD game instead of starting back at the turning point save position.
Now choose from the section below for the ending you want to see:

ENDINGS:

For "This Little Piggie..." ending:
Choose "Seduce Sylvia". "Use Collector". Use "Affection" on Sylvia. Lose the
game by choosing any pieces OTHER THAN the Cigarette, Madame T, and the Kite.

For "The Big Kiss" ending:
Choose "Find Monica". Jump into Jeanine's mind. "Use Collector" and then use
"Affection" on Lance. Use "Aggression" on Monica. Win the game by choosing
the Cigarette, Monica, Madame T, and Kite. The Kite and Monica are your
strongest pieces.

For "The Village Idiot" ending:
Choose "Find Monica". Jump into Jeanine's mind. "Use Collector" then use
"Affection" on Lance. Use "Aggression" on Monica. Lose the game by choosing
any pieces OTHER THAN the Cigarette, Madame T, and the Kite.

For "The Healing" ending:
Choose "Go to Max". "Use Collector". "Read Psyche Max". Win the Black
Diamond game by choosing these pieces:
Cigarette, dead Madame T, Kite and one other person if possible. The Kite
is your strongest piece.

For "Moki's Playmate" ending:
Choose "Go to Max". Lose the game by choosing any pieces OTHER THAN the Kite,
Madame T and the Cigarette.

For the "Pretty Bracelet" ending:
Choose "Go to Max". Win the game by choosing these pieces: Kite, Madame T,
Cigarette and one other person. The Kite is your strongest piece.

For the "Hot Head" ending:
Choose "Seduce Sylvia". Again, choose "Seduce Sylvia" when it becomes
available. "Use Collector". Use "Submission" on Sylvia. "Use Collector" and
use "Affection" on Lance. Win the game by choosing the Cigarette, Madame T,
the Kite, and one other person.

For "Puka Lounge Blues" ending:
You should be able to get the Puka Lounge Blues ending by getting a tie
game with Max. His and your last pieces played should be equal strength so
that they cancel each other out.

Avid Gamer's second walkthrough (to get these endings):
"Lexi's Last Laugh", "Change Heads" and "No Third Chances"

Jump into Laina's mind as she is leaving you.

After she kicks you out of her mind, Eric will go upstairs himself to snoop
around in the Study. Choose "Open Folder". Then read the "Watercolor". Chad
will ask you to leave. You will go see Madame T. Jump into her mind when it
becomes available. She will brag on you for doing that and then show you one
of her memories.

Then she will send you to check on Chad in the Study. Touch "Chad's hand".

---DISK 2---

Touch Laina's "Key Chain". Jump into Laina's mind when she leaves your car.

She'll kick you out of her mind again. Choose "Go with Moki". He will give
you family history lessons and show you some items. Touch the "Doll Head"
when it becomes available. Jump into the Dancer's mind.

Jump into Monica's mind when it becomes available.

Tell Moki the "Teacups Explode". He will give you Laina's address in return
and you will go there. At Laina's house, choose to tell her about the
"4 Collectors". Laina will activate the Collector. "Read Psyche Laina".
Choose nothing else.

---DISK 3---

Jump to Lt. Grigg's mind.

Jump into Myki's (psychic dog's) mind when it becomes available. Read the
"Name on Wall" first. Then touch the "Styrofoam Cup" and the "Old Sock".
Then you must be patient and wait until you are released from jail.
When you get outside, you will find that Moki is waiting for you. Choose
to "Go with Moki" again. Moki will take you to meet Sylvia and Max to test
a Collector he's getting from them. Sylvia will activate the Collector. Use
"Submission" on Sylvia. When Max activates the Collector he has in his
briefcase, "Read Psyche Max". Max will hurt you and you will run away. Laina
will find you and take you to see Madame T for help. Madame T will heal you.
You will then heal Laina by showing her a memory from Max that shows Max
(Lexi) destroying Sergei and not her father doing it.

[NOTE: Again, if you are using the 3DO version, you should copy your game
save (when it asks for disk 1) using Game Guru so you can see the other
ending later without starting over completely. See instructions above if
needed.]

---DISK 1---

You'll now be at Miragequest. Bookmark your place (save your game on the
PlayStation version) and put that memory card aside for later use. That saved
game is a turning point for many different endings. Also, bookmark your
save when Max is about to start the Black Diamond game with you (bookmark
when he says "and winner takes all"). That way, if you lose, you can restart

I have only catalogued the three main endings shown below. There are many
more but they are covered by either Al's guide or my first guide above, so I
will not name them. There are also more ways to get these endings from the
turning point save. Now choose from the section below for which ending you
want to see.

Various gameplay notes:
If you are playing the 3DO version and the game is not going like you
need it to (ex. not enough people for the ending you want), turn off the
system and then turn it back on. Your saved game that it saved between disk
changes will still be there until the next change is required or when a
game ending is played. That saves you from disk swapping with the Game Guru
to restore your save later when it erases it.
It is possible to beat the game with the endings below by playing it
differently but you will not be able to use my guides because the pieces will
probably change. I simply chose that path because it seemed like the shortest
and quickest route to get you there.

*** For the "Change Heads" ending: ***
Choose "Go to Max". "Use Collector" when it becomes available. Use
"Submission" on Max. Now you must get a tie game with Max. His and your last
pieces played should be equal strength so that they cancel each other out.

When & if you get to the second game with Max, you want to WIN this time to
get the ending! Laina will automatically choose the "Icon" for you. Then
choose the Cigarette, Laina and Madame T to beat Max. All but the Cigarette
are strong pieces and should take most objects but not people (except Chad).
Any person you act against (except Chad) will cancel your piece along with
them.

*** For the "Lexi's Last Laugh" ending: ***
Choose "Go to Max". "Use Collector" when it becomes available. Use
"Submission" on Max. Now you must get a tie game with Max. His and your last
pieces played should be equal strength so that they cancel each other out.

When & if you get to the second game with Max, you want to LOSE the game this
time. Choose any pieces OTHER THAN the Icon, Cigarette, Laina and Madame T.
Also, try not to choose any people (except Chad) if possible as they might
cancel his powerful pieces and possibly get you the "No Third Chances"
ending instead. Try to only choose objects (Ring, MQ Pin, Doll, etc.).

*** For the "No Third Chances" ending: ***
This is, in my opinion, the HARDEST of the three endings to get because
two people rarely popped up for me. It is also the one that is the least
interesting because it is almost exactly the same as the "Puka Lounge Blues"
ending.
Choose "Go to Max". "Use Collector" when it becomes available. Use
"Submission" on Max. Now you must get a tie game with Max. His and your last
pieces played should be equal strength so that they cancel each other out.

When & if you get to the second game with Max, you want to get a tie game
with Max this time. I have never been able to get a tie game without the
game giving me at least *two* people in the random squares (although I
have not fully tested all objects and everything). Max needs to have enough
strong pieces to cancel both of yours (Icon and Madame T) at the end of the
game (after all weaker pieces have been eliminated) to get a tie game.
Max's Laina would not be a factor either because your Madame T can take her.
If Max gets your Cigarette, he can completely eliminate you! No way for a
tie there...

Anyway. if the game does give you two people, choose: Cigarette, Madame T and
the Doll. Laina chooses the Icon for you to start with.

If the game gives you three people (not counting Chad), choose: (Icon),
Cigarette, Laina and Madame T. That should do it. Icon will cancel with one
of his people; Laina with another; and Madame T with the last of his people.
The placement I have indicated (in the order I have listed to choose them)
may vary. You will need to use your own judgement as to their placement as
things change a little. You want your strong pieces (Madame T and Laina)
across the board from his so you have room to take his objects first.

Walkthrough for the first Black Diamond game for the endings above (work
most of the time if you followed my second guide to get here):
You need a tie game with Max on the first game to get the above endings. It
is required...
The walkthrough varies depending upon the number of people the game gives you
in the last three random squares. Also, the placement I have indicated (in
the order I have listed to choose them) may vary. You will need to use your
own judgement as to their placement as things change a little. You want your
strong pieces (Madame T and Laina) across the board from his so you have room
to take his objects first. Also, do NOT count Chad as a person; count him as
an object because he is not strong enough to cancel one of your persons when
played against. Madame T will take all objects (except the Icon), Chad, and
Laina. You want to use Madame T to eliminate all of Max's objects (except
the Icon if you do not choose it) and leave the last person (but not his
Laina or Chad) for last to cancel out with her for a tie game.

The game MUST give you AT LEAST one person (not counting Chad) in the
random squares or it is not possible to get a tie game (I don't think so
anyway, but I did not test all objects, etc. to find out for sure...). If
they are all objects, restart the game again from your save and try again.
Game gives you 1 person (but not Chad): Madame T, Cigarette, Icon and Doll
Game gives you 2 people (but not Chad): Laina, Icon, Madame T and Cigarette
Game gives you 3 people (but not Chad): Unknown. Never got three people but
it is possible to get three. Do not think it's possible to get a tie with
three other people though as you do not have enough powerful pieces to cancel
all three (unless one of the three is Chad, in which case you would count it
as two people instead of three).
