I. Revsision History
*******************************************

Version 0.4 (10/20/98):
-Seems I forgot to add some things before I
sent my first FAQ out. I will try to add as
much as I can today
-Added some new Pokémon to the Pokémon Evolution
-Added some description to some sections I was
missing.
-Put up a little more of the walkthrough
-Fixed the TM and HM section

Version 0.0 (10/15/98):
-This is the first time I have ever written a FAQ.
So please bear with me.
-I am doing this from the Red version. Note that there
is no big difference between the Red and Blue version.
-My cousin will be adding things for the Blue Verison that
may be missing from the Red. So if something is different in
Blue he will give it to me.

II. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
*******************************************

Q. What exactly is Pokémon?
A. Pokémon is a game that mainly focuses on
collecting and training 150 different monsters.

Q. I've heard that there are a few different
versions of Pokémon, how many are there?
A. There are about 4 Game Boy versions to the
Pokémon game. The first to come out was the Red
and Green version. The Blue version was released
as a special mail in offer. The yellow version has
you start off with Pikachu as well as fighting
Jessie and James from the cartoon.

Q. What version are released here in America?
A. The Blue and Red version.

Q. Is there any difference between them?
A. Yes, for example in the Blue version you will
not find any Ekans while in the Red you will be able
to capture a Ekan and vice versa. They also have a
different rarity. I will classify them as many, few,
one, or none.

Q. Will there be a sequel?
A. Yes. There will be a Silver and Gold version.
So far the only thing known is that there are at
least 250 different Pokémon!

Q. Is there an N64 version?
A. Yes, it is called Pokémon Stadium. It comes with
the 64GB Pak. It allows you to transmit your monsters
from the Gameboy to the N64 and battle it out with
someone else.

Q. Is it true that there are more than 150 monsters?
A. Yes, there is a 151 Pokémon and his name is Mew.
I'm not sure how to get him yet, but when I do I will
put it in the FAQ.

%%%Pallet Town%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#01 Bulbasuar- only one found in both versions
#04 Chrmander- only one found in both versions
#07 Squirlte- only one found in both versions

You must first choose a name for yourself and your rival.

You start the game in your bedroom. There
is a computer in your room. This is where you
can store, deposit, and toss items that you don't
want. Go to it and withdraw a potion. It will help
you in the next battle. Walk downstaris and talk to
the people to learn more about Pokémon. Then leave
the town by heading north. You will be stopped by
Professor Oak.
He will bring you to his lab where
he will give you your first Pokémon. You will be
able to choose between Bulbasaur, a Grass Type
Pokémon, Charmander, a Fire Type Pokémon, and Squirtle,
a Water Type Pokémon. You can choose any Pokémon you wish
but I would suggest you choose Bulbasuar.
He will get you through the beginning of the game
a little easier. After you get your Pokémon, try to leave.
Your rival will then challenge you to a duel.
(Note the odds are in his favor, becasue he
will always choose the Pokémon that is stronger againt
yours.) If you manage to beat your rival you will get
some cash if not, no big deal just return to your mother
and have her heal your Pokémon. Now head north towards Route 1.

%%%Route 1%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#16 Pidgey- many found in both versions
#19 Rattata- many found in both versions

In Route 1 there are two Pokémon here.
Pidgey and Rattata. You need a Poké Ball to capture
them, which you do not have yet. In the meantime
have your Pokémon fight a few battles to make him
stronger. If your Pokémon is injured return to your
mother and heal him up. As soon as you gain a few
levels head up north towards Viridian City.

%%%Viridian City%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Treasures found here:
TM 42

In this town you will see a Pokémon Center,
a gym, a Poké Mart, various people, as well as a
man stuck behind a bush. (Remember him, you will be
coming back here later.) Use the Poké Center to heal
your Pokémon, gather information, trade your Pokémon
with a friend, as well as access three computers. The
top is Someone's PC (note this will change to Bill's
PC later in the game). It will allow you to store Pokémon
and retrieve any Pokémon that you have caught.
The second is your PC, and the third is Professor
Oak's PC. It allows you to see how well you are doing in
your journey. First visit the Poké Mart. Talk to the person
at the counter and she will have a package for Professor Oak.
Walk back to Pallet Town and give the package to Professor Oak.
He will give you a Pokédex. This will help you learn about the
Pokémon you've seen, caught, data, and where they may be found.
Head back to Viridian City and goto the Poké Mart. There
buy a couple of Poké Balls and whatever else you may need.
Head back to Route 1 to catch a Rattata and Pidgey. To do this
beat them until their life is very low, then select item and
use the Poké Ball on them. If they are weak enough you will catch
them and they will now be yours to control. (You can only have six
Pokémon at one time, if you have six and catch another Pokémon
it will be transferred to Someone's PC.)

%%%Route 2%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#10 Caterpie- few in Red, many in Blue
#13 Weedle- many in Red, few in Blue
#16 Pidgey- many found on both versions
#19 Rattata- many found in both versions

Treasures Found Here:
HP UP
Moon Stone

This area is pretty short. Just walk up
to the builiding and enter. You will return here
later on in the game.

%%%Viridian Forest%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#10 Caterpie- few in Red, many in Blue
#11 Metapod- few in Red, many in Blue
#13 Weedle- many in Red, few in Blue
#14 Kakuna- many in Red, few in Blue
#25 Pikachu- few found in both versions

Treasures Found Here:
Antidote
Poké Ball
Potion

Before you enter this area I suggest
that you buy some Antidote. A couple Pokémon here
can posion your Pokémon. This is the first area of
many that you will meet other Pokémon trainers.
Trainers are the only place that you will be able
to get money, so I suggest you fight every trainer you
come across. Trainers also give you more experience
than you would normally get from fighting a wild
Pokémon. After you make your way through the forest
head north towards Pewter City.

%%%Pewter City%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Treasure found here:
Old Amber

In this town you will find a Museum, a gym,
Poké Center, and a Poké Mart. Restock any items
you may need and rest your Pokémon. You should raise
your Pokémon a few levels before you enter the gym.
If you wish you can enter the Museum. This museum
show things that are to come later in the game. Once
you feel you are ready to face the gym leader enter
the gym. There is one other trainer in there, but
he shouldn't give you to much trouble if you've built
up.
Once you beat him heal if you have too, if not
head on to fac Brock. Brock has two Pokémon at his
command. They are Geodude which is at Lv12 and an
Onix at Lv14. If you manage to beat Brock you will
recieve the Boulderbadge. With this badge the power
of all your Pokémon will increase. When you are ready
head off towards Route 3.

%%%Route 3%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#16 Pidgey- many in both versions
#21 Spearow- many found in both versions
#39 Jigglypuff- few found in both versions

This route is basically a level gainer.
There are a few trainers here, along with two
new Pokémon to add to your collection. Near the
end of Route 3 is a Poké Center and the entrance
to Mt. Moon.

&&&Mt. Moon%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#35 Clefairy- few found in both versions
#41 Zubat- many found in both versions
#46 Paras- few found in both versions
#74 Geodude- few found in both bersions

Treasures found here:
Potion x2
Rare Candy
Escape Rope
Moon Stone
TM 12
TM 01
HP UP

Mt. Moon has quite a few trainers and
wild Pokémon, so I suggest to build up some
before you take on this place. While in Mt. Moon
you will see for the first time of manysome Team
Rocket members. They will have some of the stronger
Pokémon in the game so take caution when facing
these guys. Another thing that you will find here are
two fossils. They are the Dome Fossil and the Helix Fossil.
You will only be able to choose one, so choose wisely.
The Helix gives you the Omanyte and the Dome gives you the
Kabuto. You will get these Pokémon later on in the game.
After Mt. Moon you exit Mt. Moon you will be in Route 4.

%%%Route 4%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#19 Rattata- many found in both versions
#21 Spearow- few found in both versions
#23 Ekans- few found in red, none in blue
#27 Sandshrew- few in blue, none in red

Treasures found here:
TM 04

Route 4 is another simple route. Just
keep headin east and you will reach Cerulean City.
Also note that if you pass Route 4, you will not
be able to return to where you have just been. So
if there is anything you want to do, or any Pokémon
you may hve missed I suggest you do them now.

%%%Cerulean City%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#124 Jynx- traded in both versions

Treasures found here:
Bicycle
TM 11
TM 28

This town has many things going for it. It has
ususal Poké Mart and Poké Center. Another thing it has
going for it is the Cerulean Gym and a Bike Shop. The
bike here is 1,000,000. So you won't be buying this anytime
soon. Also in one of the houses a guy will trade a Poliwrath
for a Jynx. Poliwraths can be found be evolving them from
Poliwhirl. Poliwhirls are usually founds in the water. So when
you get a rod, start fishing in the water areas.
If you head north of the town, you will see Route 24. Be
advised that Gary will come after you if you head towards this
route. So either save before you fight him, or build up. Also
one of the houses in the upper right corner is the only out of
the town. But a cop is standing there. In order to make him move
you must beat the gym leader. The gym leader is Misty, and she
has two Pokémon at her command.
Staryu at level 18 and Starmie at level 21. The two are water
type so build up your Pokémon that are strong against water type
Pokémon. When you beat her you will recieve the Cascadebadge. This
badge assures that Pokémon at level 30 and below will always obey you.
You will also recieve the TM 11 from her. After all this rest up and
head off towards Route 24, and face Gary if you already haven't.

%%%Route 24 & 25%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#10 Caterpie- few in red, many in blue
#11 Metapod- few in red, many in blue
#13 Weedle- many in red, few in blue
#14 Kakuna- many in red, few in blue
#16 Pidgey- few in both versions
#43 Oddish- few in red, non in blue
#63 Abra- few in both versions
#69 Bellsprout- none in red, few in blue

Treasure found here:
TM 19
TM 45

     Route 24 & 25 is mainly a level gaining
place, as well as catching a few new Pokémon.
Before you enter Route 24 & 25 there will be a
couple of Pokémon trainers in the way. You will
have to face 5 trainers as well as one Team Rocket
member. If you manage to beat them all and the Team
Rocket guy he will give you a Nugget. Sell this
Nugget if you run low on money.
After you go to the end of Route 25 you will
see a little cottage. Inside is Bill the Pokémon guy.
He will ask for your help. When you finish helping
him you will give you a SS ANNE TICKET. This will
be used later on in the game. After you recieve the
ticket leave and enter the cottage again. Now check
his computer to learn about Eevee and its evolved
form. When you are through head back to Cerulean City.
Now go back to the house that was once blocked by
the policeman. Go inside and learn what happened. Head
out towards the hole in the house and prepare to fight
another Team Rocket member. After you beat him you will
get TM 28. After that head on south towards Route 5.

%%%Route 5%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#16 Pidgey- many in both versions
#43 Oddish- few in red, none in blue
#52 Mewoth- none in red, few in blue
#56 Mankey- few in red, none in blue
#69 Bellsprout- none in red, few in blue

Route 5 has nothing much except a few new
Pokémon and a Daycare Center. Here you can let
a Pokémon grow levels without you having to build up
for them. Although you will not be able to contol what
skills it may learn as well if you want it to evolve
or not. After that head through the builidng to the
East. If you try going through the center, you will
not be able to pass until later on in the game.

%%%Route 6%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#16 Pidgey- many in both versions
#43 Oddish- few in red, none in blue
#52 Mewoth- none in red, few in blue
#56 Mankey- few in red, none in blue
#69 Bellsprout- none in red, few in blue

You will end up here after you go through
the underground cave. There are only a few trainers
and the same Pokémon from Route 5, so you won't
spend too much time here.

%%%Vermilion City%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Pokémon found here:
#83 Farfetch'd

Treasures Found Here:
Bike Voucher
Old Rod
HM 01

You will be in Vermilion City for a while
so now is the time to build up your Pokémon before
heading on. The Vermilion City Gym is blocked by
a bush, so you will have to find a way to cut the bush.
The Captain of the SS Anne has the HM 01 that will teach
a Pokémon to cut that bush. You should have gotten the
ticket from Bill back in Route 25, if you didn't go back
and get it.
Before you go though you may want to go to the upper
left house in the city. He will give you the old rod, which
will let you catch some of the Water Type Pokémon. Also house
that is above the Gym has two very good things about it. The
house to the left is the Pokémon Fan Club. Talk to the guy
on the couch and he will give you a Bike Voucher. Take this
voucher to Cerulean City and get yourself a bike for free!
The house to the right will trade a Farfetch'd for a
Fearow. Once you have done all of this head off towards the
SS Anne.

Pokémon evolve into stonger forms as they
gain levels. Some, like Pikachu, must use a special

must be traded in order to evolve into Gengar.
Also note that all Pokémon are different. For example
two Abras will be different even though they are on the same
level. Also some Pokémon may evolve at different levels. Below
is when mine evolved. Yours may or may not differ. You can also
stop your Pokémon from evolving by pressing B as it is evolving.

VI. Pokémon Skills
*******************************************

Pokémon learn various skill as they grow, and evolve.
Sometimes it is best not to evolve your Pokémon as soon as
you get them. A Pikachu for example may learn a skill that
its evolve form, Raichu, may never learn. So you may want
to gain a few levels before evolving your Pokémon.

*******************************************
VII. TM and HM
*******************************************

Throughout the game you will recieve special
items called TM and HM. They are used to teach a
Pokémon a skill that he/she may not normally learn
on its own. They're are about 50 TM and 5 HM. I will
have the entire list here soon.
