7/6/2000- Version 2.5- Happy… 6th of July! World 4 walkthrough is
finished.

7/2/2000- Version 2.4- How very odd! For some odd reason the update
number did not show up at the top of the screen… well, anyway, more of
the walkthrough is here.

5/28/2000-Version 2.0- Well, I never thought I'd come back to this FAQ,
but, lo and behold, once I picked up my Gameboy the first game I could
find was… that's right! Kirby's Block Ball! And, since I'm playing, I
figured I might as well begin a walkthrough.

11/19/99- Version 1.01- As per a request by the webmaster, I've removed
the address from the warnings.

11/11/99- Version 1.0- Began this FAQ.

This game is a MUST for any block-breaking game fans. While it isn't
all that difficult to play, I just decided to write a FAQ so GameFAQs
can have one on the list (plus I was bored…) So, with that out of the
way, let's get busy with the FAQ!

The controls for Kirby's Block Ball are very simple. They are as
follows.

A button- Launch ball, paddle bounce.

B button- Use current special ability.

Select button- Press after pausing to exit to the map.

Start- Pause

+ Pad- Move paddles.

Easy enough. Let's move on.

In Kirby's Block Ball, every block can be destroyed one way or another.
To advance to the next level, you must destroy all of the white, gray,
and black blocks on the screen ("unbreakables", 1-up blocks, and
ability blocks aren't necessary to destroy to advance.) Any normal
square blocks break up into tiny square boxes when hit.
The types of blocks are as follows.

WHITE BLOCK- requires a single hit to break or split up.

GREY BLOCK- requires two hits to break or split up.

BLACK BLOCK- you need to use a Kirby Bounce (done by hitting the A
button when the ball is right on the paddle) to break these.

UNBREAKABLE BLOCK- These blocks can only be destroyed with a bomb item.

ABILITY BLOCK- These blocks can only be destroyed using one of the four
special abilities Kirby can acquire.

1-UP BLOCK- These blocks can take repeated hits, giving you increased
points with each hit. On the final hit, if you strike it with a
special ability, it will yield a 1-up (hence the name.)

STAR BLOCKS- If you collect all of these blocks in a single world, you
get a 1-up. They also serve to block the spikes during the boss stage.

"OTHER" BLOCKS- These blocks are the only truly unbreakable blocks,
because they are part of the scenery. Most often, they are used to
make hidden pictures within the levels.

This section describes the items you can obtain in Kirby's Block Ball.
You can either get items by killing an enemy or by picking it up off
the board.

WARP STAR- This brings you to the section where you can choose one of
the four bonus stages. The higher the level, the harder the bonus
stages are.

BIG WARP STAR- After you kill the little creature that imitates the
boss, this will appear to bring you to the real boss.

APPLE- Gives you 1,000 points.

LOLLIPOP- Gives you 1,500 points.

CUPCAKE- Gives you 2,000 points.

DUAL-KIRBY ITEM- Splits the ball into two balls. Beat the level
without losing one of them to gain a 1-up

ABILITY ITEM- This makes Kirby cycle through the four abilities,
stopping when you press B. Kirby will gain that ability.

BOMB ITEM- This explodes any of the "unbreakable" blocks.

SWITCH- This changes any gray-colored blocks to white-colored, and
vice-versa.

This section describes the four abilities that Kirby can acquire.
All four abilities will disappear if you hit spikes while using it.
The ability you currently have is shown in the top left hand corner of
the screen.

SPARK- Upon pressing B, Kirby becomes a mini fireworks display! Using
this, he can plow through normal blocks as if they weren't there, and
bounce off of ability blocks while destroying them. Its symbol is a
lightning bolt.

STONE- Pressing B with this makes Kirby morph into a stone and drop
like… you know. If he lands on a paddle, he'll rise upward and to the
right at a 45-degree angle. The appropriate symbol to distinguish that
you are in rock form is a black rock (oddly enough :P)

NEEDLE- Pressing B causes Kirby to stop in his tracks and sprout
spikes. If you use this ability as Kirby is about to touch the paddle,
he'll stick to it, allowing you to fire him off of it in any direction.
Its symbol is a bunch of spines sticking out of a ball.

FIREBALL- This is the exact same thing as rock, except that Kirby
shoots upward, then sinks and goes to the left at a 45-degree angle.
Its symbol is a fire.

As you might expect, this is a walkthrough, world by world, level by
level, for Kirby's Block Ball. Of course, I make up the names of
worlds and stages :-)

FLOWER/GARDEN LAND
Target Score: 120000

Stage 1- The Beginning
-Paddles are on the bottom and top, and spikes are on the bottom row.
-The screen is mostly filled with white blocks, but a star block can be
seen in the middle. There are also two gaps amongst the white blocks,
which are actually hidden star blocks.
-Up top are two standard Kirby enemies- the flying puff ball, and the
walking puff ball that looks like it is wearing a mask.
-To make this boring stage go quickly and easily, use the Kirby bounce
(hit A once the ball touches the paddle.) Be sure to destroy all three
star blocks, and grab the items the enemies leave behind for a quick
and easy boost to the target score.

Stage 2- Gray Block introduction.
-The paddles are at the top and bottom row, like before, and there is
still only ONE row of spikes.
-There are three rows of blocks here. The bottom row consists of white
vertical blocks, the middle row consists of gray vertical blocks, and
the top row consists of horizontal gray blocks. Notice the gap in the
center row? Hit that to make a small warp star appear, and hit the
star to teleport to the bonus island.
-The enemies for this level? Two more of those flying things.
-You want points? Well, then don't use the Kirby Bounce. It will
knock out the gray blocks in one shot. But, if you managed to kick off
all three star blocks last round, you shouldn't have too much of a
problem.

Stage 3- Large square block introduction.
-The paddles are in the same place, YET AGAIN, as well as the spikes.
-There are four rows of blocks, and they are the large square ones. Be
careful if you hit them without a Kirby Block, as they will split into
four blocks. There is also a big square ability block in the center of
the top row, four bomb-able blocks in the second and third rows, and a
star block at the center of the bottom row. There is also a bonus
chance item in the right side.
-A solitary enemy here… it's just the sweeping blob with a hat, another
standard enemy. It will leave behind a food item.
-To max out your points, make as many large square blocks miniature
blocks A.S.A.P., then hit the bonus chance and try to get them all up.
Even if you don't succeed, the bonus chance blobs are worth more than
the blocks themselves. Also, be sure to grab the food item left behind
by the witch thingie.

Stage 4- Mini-Cappy!
-There is only one paddle and row of spikes, down at the bottom.
-There are eighteen star blocks to collect, and two black blocks.
Nothing else special.
-The enemy is the mini-version of the boss, the mini-mushroom. Kill it
to make the large warp star appear.
-My advice? Kick out all the blocks before attacking Mini-Cappy.
Then, just attack it until the star comes. Nothing big.

Stage 5- BOSS LEVEL! Cappy the Mushroom
See boss section for details.

AQUA LAND
Target Score: 120000

Stage 1- Into the Sea
-The paddles are in their normal places: up top and on the bottom. The
spikes are on the bottom row.
-Most of the blocks can be found in the center. There are six
horizontal gray blocks, four horizontal whites, four vertical whites,
and two grey squares. There is also a rectangle of horizontal black
blocks surrounding this grouping.
-You want enemies? You got them. There are two of the pufferfish
enemies up top that will give food items, as well as one of those
creatures that are always on the bottom of the sea, which will also
give food items.
-Max out points by taking out all of the black blocks, which are worth
500 points each. Grab the food items, and break the gray blocks
normally, without the Kirby bounce. This should net you somewhere
around 25000 points.

Stage 2- Diving Deep
-The usual formation of paddles and spikes. Ho hum.
-This has a large variety of blocks. There are seventeen black blocks
formed in a zigzag pattern that looks like an M, with alternating rows
of gray and white blocks on the left and right side of this. In the
very center, above the black block grouping, is a set of three white
blocks and a bonus chance symbol.
-A froglike enemy will give food items here, and a hermit crab enemy
will do so as well.
-Two strategies for this level. Either fire your ball up to the top
portion to knock out the two enemies, then knock out the three layers
of white blocks to reach the bonus chance and collect as fast as you
can, or just start off firing slightly to the side of underneath the
Bonus chance, Kirby Bounce the black block under it, and swipe it, then
scramble to end the round. Either way, you should be able to net a lot
of points for this round.

Stage 3- The Running Man Pulls the Switch
-The usual.  ::yawns::
-Wow, the first picture! There is a long row of black blocks near the
start, with a bunch of blocks forming the shape of a man! The pinball
bouncer as a head shows that this was an intentional thing. Oh, in
addition, to the right side of the man, there are three lines of black
blocks (signifying the man is running) and a star block. Also, there
is a hidden warp star, to the front of the man.
-The running man is leaving two ghosts in the dust, which will leave
Switch items behind when defeated (hence the name the Running Man pulls
the Switch
-Take only ONE switch items to give you many gray blocks to destroy.
Also, make sure you destroy the star block.

Stage 4- Mini-Squishy in a Pinball Machine
-One paddle, one row of spikes. Both are at the bottom.
-Another mini-boss level. The star blocks are arranged in three
horizontal rows, with the pinball heads separating each row. There are
also two black blocks which surround the area where you can enter the
large warp star.
-The only enemy is the mini-Squishy. Hit it a few times to send down
the large Warp Star.
-It may be hard, but take out the star blocks A.S.A.P. Then attack the
black blocks, and finally, the mini-Squishy.

Stage 5- Octopi Make My Pants Squishy
-Boss stage. Forgive the name, and see the boss section for details.

TOTEM LAND
Target Score- 125,000

Stage 1- BRZAP!
-The usual set of paddles… oh, when will it change?!
-This is a very odd looking level. But, before you start it, make sure
you fire your ball in the bottom left corner for a secret star :-) OK…
as for the blocks, the odd pattern of this level is: two columns of
rectangular gray and white blocks on either side, a gap, and then a
bunch of ability blocks and small gray and white ones.
-Hence the name BRZAP… there is one of those jumping electrical blobs
in the center of the screen. When you hit it, you gain the SPARK
ability!!
-First, immediately go for the secret star in the corner. Then, once
you get back from playing the bonus game, attack the electric blob.
Lastly, use the sparking ability to clear out this entire level with
ease, for lots of points!

Stage 2- The Impossible Bonus
-Wow, an oddball for spikes and paddles! Well, paddles, anyway.
Rather than having a paddle up top, there is a paddle on the right
side.
-Hmmm… maybe an ASCII would better show this. I'm doing this by hand,
so don't criticize it :-P

UUUUUUUUUU This is a row of unbreakables
WWBBWWWWw This is a row of white blocks, plus a bonus chance.
WWBBWWWWw Ditto.
WWWWWWWWw Just white blocks. Small "w"s are one square
AAAAAAAAUUUU Rectangular ability blocks, and some unbreakables.
GGGGGGGGg Just gray blocks.
SSGGGGGGg A 1-up block, then gray blocks
SSGGGGGGg Ditto.
UUUUUUUUUU Unbreakables.

-Enemies include two birds which leave food items (flying inside the
unbreakable things) and another spark blob, if you lost your ability.
-See the level name? It's nearly impossible to collect all of the
blocks in the bonus chance. Make it easier by cleaning out all of the
blocks with the spark ability BEFORE hitting the bonus chance, if you
can. I got lucky one time (and out of the many times I've played this
game, I mean just that. ONE TIME.)

Stage 3- The Wheel of Misfortune
-Wow! Paddles on all four sides! Spikes, fortunately, are still on
the bottom row.
-This level is fashioned by the wheel enemy in Kirby games. There are
many gray blocks, white blocks, and eight unbreakable blocks
surrounding a bonus chance item, as well as a secret star.
-The enemy is the Wheel creature, which leaves the switch item behind.
-Hmm… if you have your spark ability, then be careful, as you may lose
it if it bounces off one of the unbreakables while you are plowing
through the mass of blocks. This level should also be titled "The
Impossible Bonus", but while it isn't impossible, it is VERY DIFFICULT
to get all of the blocks smashed.

Stage 4- The Starry Blob- Starring Kabu!
-Paddles and spikes are only on the bottom.
-Well… I THINK this level is supposed to be fashioned after the
electric blob, but it also looks a lot like Kirby ducking. I really
can't describe this level, except that the outline of the creature is
made of star blocks, the cheeks of 1-up blocks, and the eyes of black
blocks.
-The mini Kabu spins above the creature. Hit it enough to make the big
warp star appear.
-Taking out all of the blocks is simple with the spark ability, but you
might not have it anymore. Anyway, take out the star blocks first,
then concentrate on the one-up blocks. The one up-blocks are more
valuable if you hit them to the 3200 point mark with an ability, then
smash it normally for another 3200. Allows quick increase to target
score :-). Then, when done block collecting, smash Kabu and take the
star to………

Stage 5- Peek-Kabu!
-Heh, I like the names I'm making for these levels. See the boss
section for details.

CIRCUS LAND
Target score: 125,000

Stage 1- Enter the Big Top
-Paddles revert to the normal, up top and on the bottom. However, the
top row now has spikes, so be careful when using abilities!
–I can not even begin to describe directly how this stage looks: it is
basically a large horizontal area filled with blocks and a pinball
face. It is blocked off by many unbreakable blocks, ability blocks,
and a solitary gray block above the bottom paddle. That is your
entrance. Oh, and right above that is a Dual-Kirby item, which helps
clear out the blocks faster.
-There are two enemies here, and they both look like blocks with eyes,
a mouth, and legs. Hit each of them three times to knock them out, and
they'll yield a Switch item.
-To start off, make sure you still have the spark ability, as you'll
need it soon. Then, plow through the gray block and collect the Dual-
Kirby item. Then, as they rebound back and forth, remember to keep
hitting them back if they fall down again. Don't use the spark ability
at all, however: that is more useful in the next few stages, and if you
use it here, you might open up the top row of spikes :-X. Try to keep
both balls, because you get a one-up if both survive.

Stage 2- Burn, Baby, Burn!
-One row of paddles and spikes, on the bottom.
-No, the name of this stage does not imply that you gain the fireball
ability here… it just reminds you that, if you miss target score, it's
better to come BACK here with that fireball ability. Most of the
blocks in this level are in vertical rows. There are also two 1-up
blocks, 2 pinball heads, and a bonus chance.
-The walking things with masks from stage one return! They're facing
you this time, but no big deal.. knock 'em out for food items!
–Use the spark ability to clear out most of the blocks. TRY NOT TO
GRAB THE BONUS CHANCE UNTIL LATE! It is almost impossible to win
without a Fireball or Needle ability.

Stage 3- Is it a Squishy or a Poppy Brother?
-Yeesh… paddles and spikes on all four sides. Be careful with your
ability!
-As the name implies, this level has the blocks formed into the shape
of a Poppy Brother… except, it looks more like a Squishy. There is a
hidden star right next to the bonus chance, which is supposedly the
mouth of the Poppy Brother.
-One of those wheels is back again, with a switch item. The ball with
its tongue sticking out is here from Kirby's Dream Land: bash it and it
will yield a Dual-Kirby item.
-The spark ability helps a lot. First, make sure you take the trip to
the Bonus Star, and then break as many blocks as you can before you hit
the bonus chance. Once you get bonus chance, use the Paddle Bounce to
inflate Kirby to a bigger size and faster speed, and smash through all
the jelly blocks there. The switch item the wheel gives can be
ignored, as can the Dual-Kirby.

Stage 4- Mini-Poppy in the Starred Cage!
-Paddles and spikes are on the bottoms and the sides.
-At least, that's what it looks like. The star blocks are in nice,
neat vertical rows.
-The mini-Poppy Brother is in the center of the rows of star blocks,
making it look as if he is caged in.
-The star blocks should be very easy to take out with an ability.
Then, just whack the two black blocks, and finally, Mini-Poppy. The
star appears, so take it, you fool!

Stage 5- And Now, the Ringmaster!
-A large Poppy Brother resides over this level. See the boss section
for details.

And I'm tired right now, and feel like playing Ultima Underworld. More
next update.

And that's it for today.

This section tells who each of the bosses is and what his special
attacks are. Every boss in this game is EASY, so they shouldn't be too
hard to defeat.

World 1 Boss- CAPPY
Cappy is the creature under a mushroom cap. At first, he'll start out
jumping left and right to attack your paddles. Hit him enough and the
cap will pop off, showing him. Now, he'll surround himself with a
shield of more of the mushroom creatures. Beat them all to beat him.

World 2 Boss- SQUISHY
Squishy is the squid/octopus thing. He does not do any attacks to
destroy your paddle, but if you hit him once, he'll get mad and try to
pick up your ball to throw at the bottom row of spikes. 12 hits and he
goes ::squish::.

World 3 Boss- KABU
Kabu is the giant totem thing found in almost every Kirby game. His
attack is a summoning of six littler Kabus, which fly at the four rows
of stars, spikes, and paddles. 12 hits makes him explode.

World 4 Boss- POPPY BROTHER
The Poppy Brother is the weird hopping humanoid that throws bombs down
at the bottom row of spikes. 12 hits and he bites the dust.

World 5 Bosses- MR. SHINE AND MR. BRIGHT
This is the Sun and Moon duo typical in most Kirby games. At first,
the moon is out. If you don't beat him fast enough, he'll throw stars
at your four paddles, knocking them out. When you beat him, the sun
will set, and throw a spreadfire pattern of three fireballs at you. 6
hits will cool him down.

World 6 Boss- MR. FROSTY
The muscular iceman is back. He picks up your ball and throws it at
one of the rows of spikes if you hit him while standing still. Every
now and then, he will roll and ram into the left and right sides of
spikes, shrinking any paddles in the way. You can only hit him now, so
do it! 12 hits and he's all burned up.

World 7 Boss- KRACKO
The cloud of doom is back! AUGH! He's a pushover though, like every
other boss. His quick lightning bolts are impossible to avoid, but it
isn't that hard to beat him even WITHOUT normal sized paddles.

World 8 Boss- WISPY WOODS
The tree makes yet another appearance, and uses the same attacks as in
every other Kirby game. Spiked balls will fall from his branches, and
he'll spit cloud bursts at Kirby and the paddles. Hitting him on the
nose 12 times makes him cry like a baby.

World 9 Boss- BALLOON (Name?)
The balloon from Kirby's Dream Land returns! All he does as an attack
is shooting bullets to the left and right of him, or directly below
him. Deflate him with twelve hits.

World 10 Boss- ROBOT (Name?)
This guy is hard to hit due to the platforms underneath and above him,
but 12 hits will still defeat him. The needle ability helps A LOT
here, as he will jump across these paddles, and sometimes, you may even
get "stuck" inside of him, hitting him the full twelve times! His
fists attempt to knock out your paddles, but like always, it isn't that
big a deal if they get shrunken.

World 11 Boss- KING DEDEDE
The King can take more punishment then every other boss, and attacks in
three phases when his life goes down by 1/3.
Phase 1- The King drops bombs down onto the bottom row of spikes, star
blocks, and paddle.
Phase 2- The King moves around, swallowing the ball if attacked from
below, then spits it straight down at the paddles and spikes.
Phase 3- DeDeDe will hop around and shoot rockets at the four paddles.
Like every other boss, DeDeDe is a pushover. Beat him to get the
rather pathetic ending!

Upon hitting a small star with your ball, Kirby will be transported to
a circle outside the castle with four bonus stages in it. The bonus
stages all give a chance to get 1-ups, so take them seriously!

UP DOWN- This bonus stage allots you 60 seconds to attempt to match up
four pictures in a row to gain 1-ups. Striking a picture will knock it
out and go to the next picture in line, and letting the ball go past
the paddle to hit a switch will replace the picture. You get a 1-up if
you match 4 pictures of DeDeDe, a 2-up if you match 4 pictures of a
star, and a 3-up if you match 4 pictures of Kirby (nearly impossible!)

AIR HOCKEY- This bonus stage pits you against the UFO creature in a
game of air hockey! The A button serves to both launch the ball and
ram the ball so it flies at the UFO faster. With every point out of
three you gain, you get a 1-up.

STAR CATCHER- This is probably the toughest of the mini-games. You
have to move your paddles to catch stars Kirby launches at you, while
avoiding the bombs. One bomb hit and the game is over! Every 10 stars
you collect gives you an extra life, and if you get a perfect, you get
FOUR 1-ups rather than three!

UP CLOUD- This is a cloud race. Use the ball to hit clouds up to the
goal line. The clouds that start farthest back are the ones that give
the most 1-ups, so try to make them win!
