This is my Mario Party FAQ or Strategies page, or whatever you
want to call it. This game involves strategy, board games, and
party filled atmosphere. This combonation equals an excellent
party game packed with fun. I hope you enjoy this game.

*************** Instruction Booklet Introduction ***************
******************************************************************
Mario looked around and smiled. Throwing a party had been an
excellent idea. It had been a long time since they had all gotten
together. All his friends were there: Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi -
even Wario and Donkey Kong. They laughed and talked about all the
adventures they had shared together in the past. But what was
there to do now?
The conversation turned to their dreams for the future. Amazingly,
they all envisioned the same thing...
To become a Super Star upon whom everyone in the world could rely.
Then Wario asked, "Which one of us is the biggest Super Star?"
"I am!" "It's me!" they all shouted. The gang couldn't come to
an agreement because they each wanted to be the best. They needed
to prove once and for all who truly was number one.
Suddenly, Toad had an idea. "Isn't a Super Star someone who helps
others when they're in trouble?"
Everyone realized he was right. Then Toad told them about a Warp
Pipe in Mushroom Village that could take you anywhere you wanted
to go. Surely there were people on the other side of that Pipe
who needed their help.
They all ran as fast as they could to Mushroom Village and jumped
into the Warp Pipe. But none of them knew what exciting adventures
awaited them on the other side...

************************ The Characters ************************
******************************************************************
This is the section that explains the characters who are included
in the game (the ones you can choose from anyway) and what their
background is.
- Mario: The plump plumber is back once again in this great party
game. Mario is easily defined as "The All-around Hero of
the Universe". Mario has the most adventures and
experience of all the characters, and that experience
may come in handy in this game.
- Luigi: The famous partner of Mario is back, not only the bright
guy with the brains, but he's even nimbler on his feet
than ever! In the adventure and the mini-games, Luigi
can be counted on to jump the far distances for the
transportation to get to the stars.
- Yoshi: Yoshi, the famous dinosaur is back in this fantastic
party game. His boundless energy well definately serve
him well on hhis quest for the stars and coins, especially
when speed is the main focus.
- Peach: Despite her pink party dress, she has a pure heart of
gold. Her kindness and bravery will definately be to
her benefit when battling Bowser to become the
Super-Star.
- Wario: Mario's not so famous brother, Wario, is back to prove
his superiority over Mario. His size and brutality
makes him a worthy opponent when mini-games require a
hands-on approach. The only other person with a greater
size and strength in the game is Donkey Kong.
- Donkey Kong: What party could possibly be complete without a
Gorilla? Donkey Kong is easily the strongest and
the biggest of the bunch, but hes not to quick.
He's come a long way since his debut and maybe
those changes will help him grab the title of
The Super-Star and reign as the top banana.
*****************************************************************
****************** The Levels (Board Games) *******************
*****************************************************************
This paragraph explains most of the levels included in the game.
- Mario's Rainbow Castle:
Toad will sit idle at the top of the board until somebody
can manage to fork over the 20-coin ransom for a single
star. But if a player lands on a ? space, Bowser will switch
places with toad. If you happen to cross paths with Bowser,
He will sell you a fake star for 40-coins.
- Donkey Kong's Jungle Adventure:
The intersections on Donkey Kong's board are blocked by
Whomps. To pass these enormous objects, you must pay a toll
of 10-coins. If you do pay the toll, the Whomp will move,
only to block the other path. Paying too many tolls can
leave you broke and strapped for cash, not allowing you to
buy a star. If a player happens to land on the ? space,
a boulder will roll down the board, forcing all players in
its path to flee for the starting block. This disaster
can cause many major setbacks, and prevent many players
from getting stars, including your character.
- Peach's Birthday Cake:
When you pass the Goomba in the upper-right corner of the
game board, you'll have to pay another 10-coin toll if you
want to play his lottery game. There are four seeds to
choose from, and the "winner" has to face Bowser. If you
manage to land on a ? space, and possess 30-coins, you may
plant a "special" seed, which will grow into a sprout that
will steal a star from another player who is lucky enough
to land on that square.
- Yoshi's Tropical Island:
There are two Blue Thwomps that divide the two islands, and
every time you pass them, you'll have to pay a toll that
keeps enlarging after every pay-out. If you have enough
coins to spare, it's usually a good strategy to raise the
toll to prevent other players from crossing. When you
land on a ? space on this board, Bubba the fish will beach
himself and switch Toad and Bowser. This can be very
annoying if you work really hard to get so close to Toad,
and then Bubba gets beached.
- Wario's Battle Canyon:
Wario's board is made up of five loops, connected by
cannon blasts to reach another loop. The cannon's send
the player around the canyon, just to land on a
different loop, where you are randomly spaced on a board
space. If you are unlucky when landing, you may find
especially unlucky spaces. In this level lurks a Shy-Guy,
who has found his home in the upper-right corner. You
must pass by him if you want to reach Bowser, but, for
a few coins, he will bring another player to his corner,
which can also be very frustrating if that player is you
when you worked so hard to almost get to Toad.
- Luigi's Engine Room:
The Entire board is covered with blue and red doors that
impede movement and alter the gamepath. If you pay a
door-keeper's toll, the doors will switch around-Often
cutting an opponent off from a star. The doors will
also switch witch doors are open and closed after the
conclusion of each round. Also, this can happen by a
player landing on a ? space during game-play.
- Bowser's Magma Mountain:
This level is a long, twisting, intricate board with many
different routes, and there are many shortcuts in which
you pay ten coins to try your hand at the roulette, and
if you win, you may pass. If you lose, you'll end up
without your hard-earned coins and you won't be able
to take the shortcut. If you happen to land on a ?
space on this board, Bowser will switch all the red and
blue squares around for two rounds.
- Eternal Star:
This level is actually real, and it is accessed by getting
100 stars. This level is a broken up star, divided into
6 parts connected by Bowser's intricate warp holes. You
must defeat his Bowser Cohorts in order to get a star.
A star still costs 20 coins, except that you must roll the
dice, and whomever gets the higher number, wins. The
Cohort will steal your star if you have one, or you will
steal his, depending on who won the highest number. If
you manage to successfully retrieve all of the stars from
the cohorts, baby Bowser's will come in their places. These
new babies often roll nine's or ten's, so watch out. If
you manage to land on a ? space in this level, ALL of the
characters will be returned to the start.
******************************************************************
**************************** The Map ***************************
******************************************************************
The Mushroom Village map is pretty basic, and here's what's on it:
The Warp Pipe in the middle of the screen takes you to the start
of all the action. The Option House in the upper-right corner
will allow you to change the options. The Mushroom bank, which
is located in the upper-left corner is where you can withdraw
and deposit your personal items, at least until you get 100 stars.
The Mushroom Shop on the left side of the screen is where you can
purchase items, and burn time between adventures. The Mini-Game
house is where you can practice any mini-game, or just brush up
your skills. The mini-game house is located on the right side of
the screen. The Mini-Game Island, which is located on the raft,
takes you through all 50 mini-games, which can be quite exhausting.
******************************************************************
************************ The Mini-Games ************************
******************************************************************
This section is commited to showing all the mini-games, and basic
overall type it is. Also there is a category that each game
falls into, they are:
Bonus Game: In these games, you have a chance at earning more
than ten coins if you win (except in Memory Match).
And if you lose, you don't win anything.
Success Game: In these games, if you win you win ten coins.
If you lose, you lose 5 coins (except in
Pipe Maze. You don't lose any coins if you lose).
Chance Game: Winning at these games are really fun, because
the coins you win actually belonged to the other
characters before you stole them.
2-ON-2 Game: In this category of games, you must team up with
someone else, then go for the gold. The winning
team wins ten coins each. The losing team loses
ten coins each.
Racing Game: If you finish first, you get ten coins! If you
lose though, you don't lose any coins! Bonus!
Point Game: Whoever has the most points at the end of these
games wins ten coins. If there's a tie, the
tieing players all win ten coins.
Survival Game: To win at these games, you must be the last
player standing. If you win, you win ten coins.
*** 1 PLAYER ***
- Memory Match: Type: Bonus Game
There are nine squares and four matches, so that means that
Bowser is waiting for you under one of them. You have only
30 seconds to figure it out.
- Knock Block Tower: Type: Success Game
Theres a chest at the top of the tower, but between you and
the prize is a tower with dangerous thwomps scattered about.
- Limbo Dance: Type: Success Game
You must carefully walk beneath a series of bars without
knocking them over OR falling on your bum. What would
a party game be without a limbo game anyway?
- Slot Machine: Type: Bonus Game
Just what the name suggests. This is a typical slot
machine. Just watch the symbols roll by and decide when
they stop, one by one. If you can match up three of
the symbols correctly, the payout will definately be
worth the wait.
- Pedal Power: Type: Success Game
It's time for Mario to work off some of that pasta!
A big Boo will threaten you from behind and unless you
can pedal fast enough to generate the lights, Boo will
get you and your coins too!
- Whack-A-Plant: Type: Bonus Game
Whack-A-Plant? It sounds pretty mean, but if they're
snapping, man-eating plants then it sounds okay. Try
to send the plants into submission by whacking them
with your hammer. For each plant you send into
submission, you will win one coin.
- Shell Game: Type: Success Game
This should also probably be known as "Don't Blink or
you'll Lose!". The Koopa's place one chest chock full
of coins under one of the shells, then they spin around
and around and around... You have to try to keep track
of where the chest is!
- Ghost Guess: Type: Success Game
As you enter the arena, you'll be surrounded by about
eight swirling ghosts. The only way to acquire the coin
is to whack the first ghost that moves. Watch their
shadows to see who really is moving and who isn't.
- Ground Pound: Type: Success Game
The object of this game is to stomp on the poles; but
only the flat ones. It sounds easy enough not to jump
onto a sharp pole, but then some pesky butterflies come
along and then you can't see which pole is sharp or
flat! All you can do now is try to remember which is
which.
- Teetering Tower: Type: Success Game
The only thing(s) between you and a chest are ten, yes
ten, topsy turvy towers! Jump from pole to pole
hastily, while still being safe, and if you're lucky,
get some extra coins on the way to the chest.
- Chance Game: Type: Chance Game
In this game, you will have to hit three blocks to
decide how you are going to screw up the game. The
first box is a person box, the second is the box
that determines what you will give, and the third box
is another person box.
- Bumper Ball Maze 1: Type: Racing Game
Although it is a bumper ball game, it is for a solo
player only. This course is a narrow path of land
surounded by water that you must overcome without
falling in. It is much harder than it looks, so
don't be deceived. To get this you must beat Mini-Game
island(just toad).
- Bumper Ball Maze 2: Type: Racing Game
This course is even harder than the first, so watch
out. To get this, you must accomplish all 50 games
on Mini-Game Island.
- Bumper Ball Maze 3: Type: Racing Game
To access this new and harder Bumper Ball Maze, simply
set new records on Bumper Ball Maze 1 & 2! This game
will be free and located at the end of the 1 player
mini game section.
*** 2 VS. 2 ***
- Deap Sea Divers: Type: Bonus Game
In this game, it's one person in the boat and one in the
blue! While one player dives for chests, the other
player positions the boat so the swim back is shorter,
allowing the diver more time to dive back for more chests!
- Desert Dash: Type: 2-on-2 Game
Imagine Cross-Country skiing in the sweltering heat, and
you've got to run the Desert Dash! You must work with
your partner/teammate and move your feet in
synchronization if you want to cross the finish line
first.
- Bombsketball: Type: 2-on-2 Game
Get to the basket and make a shot before another player
steals the ball! If you start with the ball, allow your
teammate to run interference while you swing outside
of the action for an easy shot!
- Handcar Havoc: Type: 2-on-2 Game
This isn't any Temple of Doom, but the basic idea is the
same. Tear down the track at top speed, while still
trying to actually stay on the track. If the car you're
on is riding on two wheels, simply push the analog stick
in the opposite direction!
- Bobsled Run: Type: 2-on-2 Game
This game requires complete team effort. If you're team
is the first one on the ice, you'll have a great
advantage. As your bobsled hurls through the bobsled
chute, keep clear of the edges and watch closely for
the zip pads that can greatly alter the outcome of the
race.
*** 1 VS. 3 ***
- Bash 'n' Cash: Type: Chance Game
One player is wearing a Bowser suit and runs from the
others. Why you ask? Because "the others" are
swinging hammers in hopes of beating the stuffing out
of the Bowser dressed character. Every time the
Bowser gets hit, he loses a coin and it goes to the
player that hit him.
- Tug 'o' War: Type: Chance Game
Your controller will probably get wrecked pretty quickly
if you keep on playing this event. One player is
fitted in a Bowser suit and has to face the three others.
The only thing seperating the two sides of the rope is a
vicious piranha flower. Rotate your stick quickly and
tug on the rope to win.
- Bowl Over: Type: Chance Game
Who doesn't like bowling? Probably the pins, and unless
you're holding the shell (bowling ball), you'll feel
what it's like to be on the receiving end of one of those
big black balls.
- Piranha's Pursuit: Type: Chance Game
In one of the wierder mini-games, being this one, one
player will have to run from a snapping piranha flower,
while also jumping oveer falling rocks, and dodging
fallen branches. The other players ride a cloud above
the plant, pouring rain to the plant.
- Coin Shower Flower: Type: Bonus Game
It's pennies from heaven - but they'll fall into the
hands of others if you can't stay on the flower. The
more the flower tilts, the more the coins drop, and if
you fall from the petals, the game will abruptly stop.
- Coin Block Bash: Type: Bonus Game
Nine blocks, four players, and one metal hammer. This
solution creates an atmosphere of fun, as the person
with the hammer tries to swat the others so they do
not claim the coins and the hammer toting person
himself may claim them.
- Pipe Maze: Type: Success Game
Four players stand at the end of four tubes. To collect
the coins, you must watch the maze and figure out which
pipe the chest will fall through.
- Paddle Battle: Type: Chance Game
Try to row as hard as you can by rotating the jostick as
fast as you can, simply because the weaker rowing team
will be dragged along the shore where a native Shy Guy
is waiting to steal some of your coins!
- Tight Rope Treachery: Type: Chance Game
Now's the time to get over that fear of heights! The only
way to get to the other platform where the riches await
is by walking across a tight rope, while the other players
are in tug-boats, shooting cannon-balls at you!
- Crane Game: Type: Chance Game
You are the crane and you're job is to grab the other
players in your claw and capture them. Whoever you
manage to capture will lose 1/3 of their coins.
*** 4 PLAYERS ***
- Face Lift: Type: Point Game
Bowser's face could use a little rearranging, don't you
think? This game will spot a picture of Bowser's face
in the middle, and you must match the shot to the Bowser
on your screen.
- Skateboard Scamper: Type: Racing Game
In this mad dash for the other side, you will also have
to jump over rows of blocks. Also, look for the shadows
of coins along the race course for an extra added bonus.
- Crazy Cutter: Type: Point Game
There's a monster fossilized in stone, and your character
must chisel is out with a jackhammer! Remember to chisel
with precise precision on the lines to win big. If you
obscure the outline, your chances of winning depends on
how well the other players precision was!
- Musical Mushroom: Type: Racing Game
This is sort of like musical chairs, except when the
music stops you must scamper to the middle mushroom
to claim the prize.
- Coin Block Blitz: Type: Bonus Game
It's the same field as in the Coin Block Bash, except
now there's no hammer. You must repeatedly hit the
blocks for them to open, and you need to be quick to
collect the coins.
- Balloon Burst: Type: Racing Game
Get a rhythm going by using your pump to fill up the
Bowser Balloon with air. The first person to pop the
balloon will win mega coins.
- Hot Bob-omb: Type: Chance Game
Sort of like "Hot Potatoe", except with a twist. Keep
tossing the bomb around the circle. The bomb slowly
grows with each second, so if it's flashing red, don't
keep it in your hands for very long.
- Box Mountain Mayhem: Type: Bonus Game
There's coins in the boxes, and you have to bash them
open. Not all of the boxes have coins in them though.
Some of the boxes will bounce you around the room
wasting your valuable time!
- Platform Peril: Type: Racing Game
In this game, you will race over platforms while trying
to dodge the bricks that fall away from beneath you.
Also, try to avoid the pyramid shaped obstacles that
block your path to the coins.
- Mushroom Mix-Up: Type: Survival Game
Be careful that you step on the matching colour mush-
room or you will be drowned by a giant squid.
- Treasure Divers: Type: Bonus Game
Try to bring up as many chests as possible before the
time runs out. A shark and two jellyfish try to hurt
you and waste your precious time, so watch out!
- Grab Bag: Type: Chance Game
Stealing is usually very bad and naughty, but in this
game, we'll make an exception. Grab on to other
players nap-sacks and shake free some coins for
yourself.
- Bumper Balls: Type: Survival Game
The playing field just isn't big enough for the four
of you, so mount up and try to ram the other players
off of the island. Defense is almost more important
than offense in this game, so try to use your
opponent's inertia here.
- Tipsy Tourney: Type: Racing Game
You'll have to keep moving if you want to be
victorious in this game! Underneath the tiles that
you walk on is a picture that can only be revealed
if you slide the shell over the top of it to reveal
the hidden.
- Bombs Away: Type: Survival Game
A Shy Guy will be blasting cannon-balls at the island
you walk on, and every impact will tilt the island in
a different direction. Act nimbly and stay alive.
- Mario Bandstand: Type: Survival Game
If you want to claim the coins, you've gotta get with
that music feeling and get a groove going. If you
are conducting the orchestra, push the analog stick
in the desired direction to assign notes. If you are
playing in the band, press the according button only
when it's your turn to play.
- Cast Aways: Type: Bonus Game
This is probably one of the harder mini-games.
Depending on how hard you are able to flick the stick,
your cast will land in one of the three lanes, where
floating treasure chests will pass by.
- Hammer Drop: Type: Bonus Game
It's Hammer time - Literally. One of the infamous
Hammer Bros. is back and willing to bestow some
coins on you, and you must catch them while avoiding
hammers that will knock you off the island.
- Shy Guy Says: Type: Survival Game
That canon-ball shooting Shy Guy is back, and if you
can match all his flag signals correctly, he'll
reward you with lots of coins. He has red and white
flags so don't let him fool you when he holds both
coloured flags up.
- Key-pa-way: Type: Success Game
This game requires complete cooperation of all the
players. One character has the key, but unless the
four of you can't cooperate, everybody will lose.
To win, keep passing the key among players, the
person with the key will attract the enemies attention,
so when someone else is open, pass it.
- Buried Treasure: Type: Racing Game
Tunnel your way through the Earth for a hilariously
good time. Buried arrows will tell you which
direction to go to get the chest of coins. But
digging through rocks will greatly slow you down.
Try to avois them at all costs.
- Running of the Bulb: Type: Success Game:
Big Boo is very hungry, and you're the main dish;
Unless you can work together with everbody else and
keep the little boos away from the person who has the
bulb. While the person with the bulb runs ahead, the
rest block the boos. When the bulb is plugged in, the
ghosts vanish.
- Hot Rope Jump: Type: Chance Game
It's jumping rope with a flaming twist. You'll have
to clear the rope 20 times to receive the coins. The
rope starts slowly, but accelerates greatly.
- Slot Car Derby 1: Type: Racing Game
This event is difficult at first, but can be
accustomed to very quickly. Tilt your analog stick
in the direction of the track your going down, but
be careful not to push to hard, or you'll spin out.
This track is a complete oval.
- Slot Car Derby 2: Type: Racing Game
This event is very much alike the first Slot Car Derby,
except for the fact that this track is like an oval,
but at the bottom of the course, has an indent which
creates a much harder course.
*******************************************************************
*************************** The Items ***************************
*******************************************************************
This section will explain about some of the items available at
the shop.
- Plus Block: Spin this block whenever you're in need of a few
coins. You'll get the amount of coins shown.
This block costs 200 coins.
- Minus Block: Throw this block onto the board and see who the
lucky person is who picks it up. When a player
rolls this die, they will lose the amount of
coins indicated. This block costs 100 coins.
- Speed Block: This dice rolls only between eight and ten.
This can be good for a headstart or to beat
someone to the star, but it can also be bad
in some situations when you don't want to use
it. This block costs 200 coins.
- Slow Block: This dice rolls only between one and three.
The actions are the same as the speed block.
This block costs 100 coins.
- Warp Block: This powerful block allows you to trade
positions on the board with another character.
This block costs 200 coins.
- Event Block: When this block is used, either Bowser, Boo,
or Koopa Troopa will appear. The events
they cause can boost a players status by
reducing another players! This block costs
200 coins.
- Lucky Box: When you purchase this box, you will collect
ten percent interest on the number of coins
you have collected at the end of the game.
You can only use one Lucky Box at a time and
the interest is applied after the game is over.
This box costs 400 coins.
- Casino Box: This magical Box can radically alter the
outcome of the game, but not always for the
better. The Casino Box alters the game by
changing the coin count of the player that
used it. If you win, you'll double your
coins. But, if you lose, you lose half your
coins. Bummer. This box costs 300 coins.
- Magma Mountain: This is a warp to a new level: Bowser's
Magma Mountain! To get access to this item,
play through all of the starting six levels.
This item costs a whopping 980 coins. That
amount can put a strain on anybody's purse!
- Mecha Fly Guy: This item can be used in the Mini-Game house
and is used for a rotating game, in which it
counts how many times you can rotate your
stick in 10 seconds. This item costs 100 coins.
- Record: This nifty item lets you listen to background music
from the places that you've been. It is used in the
Option House. This item costs 50 coins.
- Talking Parrot: This parrot will mimick another characters
voice with the touch of the A button. It
is used in the Option House. This item
costs 50 coins.
- Gameballs: This item lets you play games in the Mini-Game
house, even if you haven't found them during
your travels on the game board yet. Seeing
which ball comes out is the funnest part!
- No Koopa's: This item is accessable only after you have beaten
Eternal Star. It's use is to prevent you, among
others, from not being able to get 10 coins at the
beginning, or bonuses as you pass start. It can
not be used on every level. It costs 500 coins.
- No Boo: This item is accessable only after you have beaten
the Eternal Star. This item's use is to prevent Boo
from stealing stars or coins from other players in
the aid of another player; But, Boo still can appear
with the event block. This item costs 500 coins.
- Credits: This item is pretty much useless, unless you actually
like to watch the credits. It costs 100 coins.
******************************************************************
********************** The Types of Spaces *********************
******************************************************************
Just what the title says!
- Blue Spaces: The majority of spaces on the board are blue,
which award you three coins.
- Red Spaces: If you land on a red space, you'll lose three
coins, and possibly enter a mini-game.
- Blue Mini-game Spaces: Landing on one of these spaces will
send you into a one-player mini-game
where you can earn coins without
having to compete with others.
- Blue Exclamation Mark Spaces: Stepping on this opens the
potentially dangerous chance game.
The Chance game is a tricky event
and you can lose big time in just
one event.
- Question Mark Spaces: Step on the ? space to really get the
party going. Landing here will cause
the board to shake and depending on
which board you're on, various things
may happen.
- Blue Mushroom Spaces: This space gives you a 50-50 chance
on winning another turn. If you
roll a red mushroom, you'll win
another turn, if you roll a poison
mushroom, you'll have to sit out
your next turn.
- Red Bowser Spaces: If you manage to land on a Bowser space,
you'll have to confront him. Sometimes
he'll challenge you, and sometimes he'll
steal your coins.
