Revision History
========================================================================
Version 1.0
Initial release of document. The FAQ is first released to GameFAQs. It
carries only the basic tutorial, partially completed maps and completed
Disc 1 walkthrough and a partial completed Disc 2 walkthrough.
Version 1.1
Major update made for the FAQ. Edited the disclaimer. Add a completed
Disc 2 walkthrough. Make corrections to translations and make
corrections to errors/typos. I have also completed entire required
collection of maps. I have also completed the Disc 3 walkthrough!
Expanded most sections, generally add more stuffs. Added some more
information regarding the Forklift Race. I have found another method to
play billard for another time! It has been tested twice and it really
works!
Version 1.2
Another major update for the FAQ. I have added a list of movelists
manuals. I have also updated a portion of shopping list. Made more
corrections to the translations. BTW, the item list is partially
completed due to certain items. I have also added a section that
translates about the Options menu. But I would recommend you guys to get
John M. Adriatico's Shenmue Options FAQ, which is also available at

Introduction
========================================================================
First of all, this FAQ is created for people whom have problem in
playing import games. Shenmue is an adventure game from CRI's AM2
department and it is under a new game genre known as FREE [which
stands for Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment.]. There is also an
official website for the game. http://www.shenmue.com. This game is
created by Yu Suzuki. There will be sixteen chapters for Shenmue. (well,
this is going to make a big hole out of our wallets ^_^;).

========================================================================
Author's Note
========================================================================
Well, it has been a long time since I have written a new FAQ. I have
brought Dreamcast during December 1999 and generally owned a couple
of games. [which are all in Japanese ^_^]. Anyway, Shenmue is very
stunning and realistic. The characters are well-sketched and there are
many sub-games that add to its replay value. This game is rather
costly but it is worth to be added to your collection. It has a couple
of differences which is mentioned in the next few sections. BTW, the
storyline is quite easy to understand even for a person don't
understood any Japanese. [BTW, I have limited knowledge regarding to
Japanese and most of the translations are done by my sheer guessing
^_^;]. I think that this game really deserves to be collected and it
will definitely worth for the price tag.
Additions for this revision: [Version 1.2]
- Correct some of the errors and typos for walkthrough [until Disc 1]
- Added the full list of movelists manual that you can find in the
game.
- Added a portion shopping list [for A Pu's store, Antique Shop and
Tomato Mart in Dobuita]
- Added the full music list playable at those junk boxes.
- Added some more information regarding secrets in the game. Included
the 70 men battle!
- Added some more information regarding the Options menu and
translations being made on the starting screen.
What's coming up for next revision [Version 1.3]
- Better translations for moveslist [currently, I am trying to
translate them to English]
- Miscellaneous corrections for translations [the game is in Japanese,
hence corrections is need if necessary]
- Miscellaneous corrections to misintepretations.
- Complete the Shopping List!
- Complete the Item Bestiary.

Here is the translation of the Japanese manual with the front covering.
BTW, you should have two manuals. One of them is for the main game and
the other one is meant for the Passport Disc. Note that you need to
connect to the Internet through the Dreamcast in order to use the
Passport Disc. I can't access to the Passport Disc as my Dreamcast is
the Asian version which does not come with the internal modem.
Therefore, I don't have much to say about the Passport Disc.
Here you will find Dreamcast controller labelled as shown below. [Well
it took quite a long time for me to come up with an ASCII Art for the
Dreamcast controller ^_^;.]

Basic Tutorial
========================================================================
This section is specially created, just aid those whom having problem
in understanding playing the game, especially the game is in a language
that is not familiar to the user. Hence take some time to read this as
it will help to resolve the problems that you might faced in the future.
Here you will find the translations [well, not really 100% accurate as
the game is in Japanese and acquired only a brief knowledge of Japanese]
for the manual. If you have any corrections regarding the translations,
please contact me via my mailbox as stated in the top part of the
document. Okay, let's start off...
_____
/ 4.1 \_________________________________________________________________
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Movement
------------------------------------------------------------------------
For a game like Shenmue compared with other games in Dreamcast, I was
rather impressed with the excellent and realistic graphics. The graphics
are nicely rendered and possess great sharpness [take note of the facial
expressions of each people..]. The buttons that allows you to move your
character Ryo is the D-Pad [in full, it mean Direction Pad].
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
UP UP causes Ryo to move forward. Note that Ryo
LEFT RIGHT can't knock into walls/doors. Once there is
DOWN something in your way, you need to make a turn.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
DOWN causes Ryo to move in an opposite direction. LEFT allows Ryo to
make a left-turn whereas RIGHT allows Ryo to make a right turn.
To run, just hold down the [L] button and move with the D-Pad. Running
will help Ryo to move much faster but it will be obstacle in tight-
filled spaces such as corridors. Ryo could start to run while he has
already to start walking.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
In Disc 3, you will get a chance to drive a forklift where Ryo will be
employed to get to work in a warehouse. To move around the forklift,
here are basic controls:
Press R button to move the forklift forwards.
Press L button to move the forklift backwards.
Press Left to turn the reel wheels leftwards.
Press Right to turn the reel wheels rightwards.
Press Up to use the horn.
Press Square to activate the map that is given to you by Mark.
You can also use the Analog stick to turn the reel wheels.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
* The forklift has a low mobility. It can easily get jammed into tiny
small areas.
_____
/ 4.2 \_________________________________________________________________
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Action
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The (A) button will serve for this purpose. It will allow Ryo to make
an action such as pulling out drawers, opening cupboards, knock on the
doors, opening doors, talk to the townfolks and much more. The Action
button also allows you to select items from your menu. During the
conversation sequence, you will ocassionally see a red (A) icon next to
the clock found in lower right end of the screen. Just press (A) to
continue talking. You can terminate speeches but you will see Japanese
at the lower end of the screen if you press (B) or do some adjustments
under the Options Menu.
Unlike other RPGs such as Final Fantasy VIII, you will see any message
boxs in Shenmue.. [well, that could be an advantage as it allows you to
view the surroundings without any difficulties. Actually for those whom
missed the dialog boxes, you can proceed to the option screen to make
changes. But if you press (B) to skip the dialogue, you will see
Japanese on the lower section of the screen and this applies to the
changes that you had made to the configurations.]
Sometimes you may need to switch for first-person view mode to make
contact that other located at the cellings [one good example is the
lamplights in the house of Hazuki.] or people at their workplace. E.g.
You need to switch first person view mode in order to talk to the lady
working in the kiosk.
_____
/ 4.3 \_________________________________________________________________
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Action Selector
------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is the key difference between this and Action feature of Shenmue?
It typically gives you option boxes [found at the top left hand corner
of the screen.] Instead of using Action button to excute the command,
you can just press LEFT, UP, DOWN or RIGHT to make your option like
choosing an item from the grocery shop, make a choice whether to play
in the Arcade center, taking care of the kitten, etc.
The action selectors occured while shopping at Tomato Marts and
grocery shops. It also occured while during Ryo's quest in the search
of clues.
_____
/ 4.4 \_________________________________________________________________
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Search
------------------------------------------------------------------------
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
From my experience...
Well during my first play, I did not pick up any items [coz, I always
have an habit to start playing the game without refer to the manuals.]
Of course, I know a lot about this when I firstly examined my manual
^_^;) and it took me quite a while to understand those Japanese
letterings. Here is some tips regarding searching for items.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The search process is rather hard at the beginning. First of all, you
need to activate the first person view mode [you will view the screen
as it was from Ryo's point of view] as things were normally placed
below Ryo's eyesight. So just hold down [R] and using the D-Pad to
move the camera.
Note that not all items can be picked up. But there are also items
that you can picked but the item serves no purpose such as a kettle
from the kitchen ^_^; Press (A) button to select the item, note that
you may need to move the D-Pad to shift Ryo's hand to reach for the
item. To exit from the search mode, just press (B) button. But for
drawers/cupboards/removing paintings, you need to press (A), so that
the items are back to their original position.
Generally, there are two main situations and I give quite a detail
description as listed below:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Situation 1:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Test-run...
Well, you can perform a test run.. Let's have the Shenmue's cassette
tape as the example. It is found at Ryo's desk in his room. First of
all, hold down [R] button and press down on the D-Pad to view the desk.
Next the view should be focusing on the cassettle. Press (A) to pick it
up. Next press (A) and it will be added to your inventory. [the row
where you find the watch's icon.] Certain items will be kept in the
game.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Situation 2:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Special:
There are also some key items.. But how is Ryo is going to use it? One
good example is the old key that can be found in the drawer in his
father's room. Once you reached the area where the item can be used,
you will find a green (Y) or red (A) next to the clock found in
low-right hand corner. Just press (Y) to open the menu and choose the
item. Next press (A) to use that item.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Explaination on the Menu
------------------------------------------------------------------------
For explainations of menus for IMPORT games, I will try to include an
ASCII Art diagram to make my work easier in order to explain. It will be
extremely tough for me to make ASCII icons for the item menu ^_^;, hence
i have used abbreviations instead. [Don't worry, I have also included a
short brief description about the icon.] Your menu screen should look
something like this:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ASCII Art Diagram of the Menu
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

|____________________________________|
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Starting from the top-left hand corner...
------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.5a W a t c h
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Abbreviation: W
Description: A watch-like icon will acts like a thumbnail for the
actual watch.
How to use it?: Use press (A) to select it (i.e. you will get a closer
look of the watch). Choose (B) to exit and return
back to the menu.
What it does: Allows you to view the time from Ryo's watch. You will
have a camera switched to Ryo's hand where you can read
the time from the watch. As for how time is measured in
the game, I myself believe 1 sec in the real time
represents a minute in the game. The watch has an icon
that appears on the low-right hand screen. There are
some important factors regarding about time:
- Ryo has to go back home by 11:30 pm. His alarm will go
off and Ryo will be back at his room. Note that he will
still continue the games in Game YOU until you have
finished the game for that token. BTW, you can sleep in
your home as early as 8 pm.
- Shops have operating hours. For example, you would not
see bars operating in the morning. Once it is time for
the shop to close, Ryo will look at his watch and exit
the shops.
- The watch also includes a compass where the following
abbreviations means:
N North
S South
E East
W West
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before I continued...
Here are some important notes regarding item column. This column will be
enlarged in area based on the number of items that you have collected
throughout your adventure. It allows you to place items such as
photographs, matchbox, keys, etc. It is just like an item inventory
where items are kept when you play role-playing games.
BTW, here is one thing that puzzles me: Have you ever wonder where are
they kept? Note that you can viewed an enlarged version of them, by
enlarged/minimized the item respectively and rotate them. Sometimes, you
can also use them!
Here are list of general controls of the items
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Button Basic Functions
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
[R] Enlarged the item in view mode
[L] Minimized the item in view mode
D-Pad Rotates the item [the Analog stick can be used for this
function too.]
(B) Cancel
(A)* Uses the item.
* Not all items can be used! Items such as chocolate bars and
photographs are only used for viewing.
Hey, let's proceed back to the main topic!
Abbreviation: VMU represents "virtual memory unit"
------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.5b M e m o r y C a r d
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Abbreviation: MC
Description: Basically a minimized structure of Sega Dreamcast's VMU
Memory Card. It looks like your memory card.
How to use it?: Just press (A) to select the memory card and press left.
Doing this, it will allow you to play from that spot and
you will be brought to main screen and just choose
Continue to resume the game. This feature only works for
the first reset only.
What it does: Continue from another "temporarily" saved file. Note
that you need 80 blocks of memory space for the entire
game. Occassionally, if you play the game for too long
to be exact, you will experience glitches on the game.
Note that you need to have a VMU inserted into
Controller 1.
* Why do AM2 has include this function? I guess it is
due to graphics intensity. Hence you can reset and
play from the spot that you have used this function.

It is just like playing a role of a detective to gather clues and
solutions for the problem. For example, you can't exit the house at
the beginning unless you have talk to Fuk-san at the dojo. BTW, if
you managed to get all messages on the notebook, you may be able to
unlock hidden scenes between Ryo and his love interest, Harasaki
which is the ultimate motive of the walkthrough.

Yokosuka] Ryo's housekeeper, Ine-san will always hand
Ryo an envelope with 500 yen at the table once Ryo
intends to proceed on with his journey. You will get
quite a lot of cash later in the game.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's all for the explaination on the menu. Proceed to the Quick Timer
Event.
_____
/ 4.6 \_________________________________________________________________
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quick Timer Event (QTE)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
QTE stands for Quick Timer Event. It is an interactive system, that is
included in this Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment game. It is a system
that simply test on your reflexes. You will see an icon appearing in the
middle of the screen, giving out a beep signal. It is rather simple and
it allows Ryo to perform a series of acrobatic stunts! It just requires
you to press a button [UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, A, B, X, Y]. You will see
the button of the icon, which indicates which button is required to
press. Normally, these sequences are automated and might even occur in
the middle of the game. It is quite fun unlike the Free Battle Mode,
well you need to take note of the health meter of Ryo's.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
General abbreviations use in the FAQ for QTE Section:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Blue (B) LEFT <--
Green (Y) UP Up
Red (A) DOWN Down
Yellow (X) RIGHT -->
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If you was being hit unconsicous by solid/metallic objects such as
chairs, the QTE will be restarted before the QTE event begins.
Meanwhile, you need to get used to this short-form, QTE as it will
appear quite frequently in FAQ. (It seems that game creators start to
use abbreviations more often.. as even Squaresoft is using it on new
games such as FF8)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Free Battle Mode
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is one factor that I like about Shenmue. It is a combination of a
series of game genre like RPG (you take the role of Ryo Hazuki),
Adventure (you get to play in arcade games such as Space Harrier,
Darts 7 and SEGA's Neo Darts), Sports (you get a chance to race with
competitors in Hang On and a customized forklift race) and Fighting (
you get a chance to combat with competitors one-on-one and also the 70
men battle!). BTW, there is no gameovers in Shenmue!
The Free Battle Mode focus mostly on the fighting section of Shenmue.
In Free battle mode, you are allow to control your actions unlike QTE
which is automated. The free battle mode is a battle mode where Ryo
gets to fight against competitors such as Shou, Chai, etc. Ryo also
gets the chance to battle against thugs like in a 1 against 3
situation. Unfortunately, the downside of the game is its short
storyline but its nicely generated graphics and gameplay system allows
you have more fun that you can imagine in Shenmue.
As a descendant of Hazuki Clan, Ryo has already mastered some of moves
but you need to train/sharpen your skills. Once you have mastered them,
Ryo will become more powerful and stronger.
You will be able to use the moves that you have acquired to play while
playing this mode. You will find a health meter on lower-left corner,
which is a circular orbs surround with green orbs which represents your
health. Ryo will fall unconscious once all green orbs are gone. [i.e.
the health meter has depleted to zero.] Unfortunatelty, the game does
not shows the health meter of the enemy's! To win a match, you will must
knocked opponent down!
Once again, here is another refreshed view of the Dreamcast controller.

Button: L button
Function: This will cause Ryo to run. While running, Ryo can perform
Running Moves. Running Moves are deadily as they can help
Ryo to avoid enemy's attacks. It has a higher hit rate. BTW,
you need to use this skill in order to win for the later
battles.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Button: R button
Function: It will bring up the Movelist menu during a Training
Section. Refer to Movelist column under Explaination of the
Menu section for more details.
During Free Battle Mode, you will be able to execute the
"checked" move (You must pressed (A) to check the desired
move before you start the Free Battle Mode.) For example,
You have "checked" the -> + (X) move with (A). Once you
get into combat, just press [R] and you will execute the
-> + (X). This feature is great as it allows Ryo to do
complex move in a 1 button movement instead of two! It
only applies to one skill.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Button: Analog Stick
Function: This rotates the camera view via Ryo's sight of view. [It
is moving the view without Ryo moving.]
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Button: Direction Pad [D-Pad]
Function: It will move Ryo during combat. Note that Ryo must close
to his opponent, in order to use throws and virtually any
other form of attacks. There is no fireballs that Ryo can
do!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Button: Y button
Function: It allows Ryo to defend/dodge against enemy's attacks.
Well, Ryo can't block attacks [as you have seen in the
opening scenario ^_^], hence this button allows Ryo to
dodge the attack! But it is rather great when you want to
get close to your opponent to perform throws.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Button: X button
Function: This button allows Ryo to execute his punch moves. If you
press (X) repeatedly, Ryo can execute a series of combo
chains and attacks! To excute other form of moves, you need
make use of button movement.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Button: A button
Function: It allows Ryo to execute his kick moves. If you press (A)
repeatedly, Ryo can execute a spinning kick! To execute
other kick moves, you need to make use of button movement.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Button: B button
Function: It allows Ryo to perform throws while he is close to his
opponent and it doesn't matter whether he is in front or
behind the opponent's back. Button movement allows a wider
series of moves. You can practise throw moves alone. But
you can do it by having a training partner, e.g. Fukuhara
and Kishou Chin.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Button: Start button
Function: It brings up the Help Mode. If you are practising your moves,
you will see the button configuration of what the buttons
does.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, let's have a short briefing about Free Battle Mode. Unlike QTE, it
is not a single button combat. Instead you will make use of button
combinations such as Forward, (A). You will also have a health meter
found on the lower left-hand corner. Ryo has three strengths of health
ranging from green, yellow and eventually "blank". Unlike other battle
modes, it is not a one-to-one duel. Instead, Ryo will battle a gang of
enemies for certain sequences. In the game, there are certain moves that
are remained locked. You need to find a sensei [teacher], buying from a
shop or getting manuals to learn these moves. Or you can also choose to
uncover the moves through practicing (Note: not all moves can be
uncovered by practicing). Here is the list of movelist:
* I need help! I need someone to translate the moves for the game.
If you know the translations, please kindly sent it to
kangning@mbox5.singnet.com.sg and credits will be given to you.

Time Sequences / Magic Weather
------------------------------------------------------------------------
What makes Shenmue so realistic? It is due to change in the background
according to day and night. Time is virtually important as it indicates
the time when the shops will open or close and when Ryo gets to sleep
or work! Ryo needs to back at home by 11:30 pm. Every minute represents
approximately 1 second of actual time. Ryo will wake up from his room
at 8:30 am. Until Disc 3 after he have gotten a job at Warehouse
District, he needs to be awake by 7:30 pm.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Sky colour in towns.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Morning Sky - blue/white : between 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
Afternoon Sky - orange/yellow: between 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Night Sky - black/grey: between 6:00 pm to 11:30 pm. The lights
will start to operate when it is 7:00 pm.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I, myself personally, think that the time sequence is an important
factor as it varies the time when people will appear. For instance, you
will find a man dressed in blue jeans with a black apron outside his
shop during time interval between 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Whereas you will
find his sister [dressed in blue jacket and denim jeans] in the
mornings from 8:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Certain shops such as Pubs operate
during the night time. The only shop that operates for the longest time
interval is the Game YOU Arcade center or perhaps the Tomato Marts.
Once it has reached 11:30pm on the watch, Ryo will be back at his room
and you will see the menu screen (which I will explain later.)
Occasionally, you may experience a rainy season where most people
remained indoors and people will carry umbrellas with them. [hmm.. very
realistic huh?]. BTW, you will experience another form of season, and
that's winter! Plus a Christmas Theme on 25th of December...

Training Arenas

There are a couple of places, where Ryo can get to practice his moves
and it also let you to get familiar with his moves. Note that training
has no limits on the time interval. [even though after ever 30 minutes
interval, Ryo will prompt whether to stop training or not.] There is a
few differences between training and free battle mode:

========================================================================
Difference between free battle and training
========================================================================
Here are key differences observed by me:
Training Mode
- At the bottom right of the screen, you will find a box that states
Training in Chinese.
- You will be able to access the moveslist while in training mode.
- You can't perform throws unless you have a partner.
- You can't have the 1-button feature.
Free Battle Mode
- At the bottom left of the screen, you will find a health meter with
the following colours: green, yellow and transparent.
- Once you faint, you will be brought back to same sequence.
- You can have more than 1 opponent.
- You can use the 1 button feature
- You can't access the moveslist.

- Parking Lot (found on the right of Game YOU)
- Dojo (you can practice with Fuk-san, for once in two weeks)
To exit from Training Ground, press Start and Ryo will ask you whether
you should end the training session. Next pick the left option to exit.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
However, the training purpose does not only allows you to get familiar
with Ryo's moves but it has another functions:
- Allows you to uncover new skills on your own.
- Allows you to master them to Expert status.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
About learning new skills...
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
It is true and it has been proved by me. I have refer to the manual [
page 27], which had stated the entire moveslist (except those that can
be learnt through manual). Once you have entered the unlocked button
movement, you will see a green screen and Japanese letterings lined up
vertically that indicates that Ryo has learn that particular skill.
Unlearned skills can be mastered by using scrolls or someone will teach
you. Unlearned skills are marked with black Japanese letterings.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
About building levels of your skills...
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
At the moveslist screen, you will find red lines and words scribed next
beside it. That's actually the level of the skills. The line that is
situated at the highest peak, states the Expert/Mastered status. The
line that is situated in the middle states the Intermediate status,
whereas the bottom line states the Begineer status. Observe carefully
that there is actually transulcent bars which indicates the level of
attainment in that particular skill. To build up a skill, just keep on
using the skill and attainment level will rise.

[Save]
I will explain the [Save] Function first. Unlike having instant
continue via the memory card through menu, this is a standard form of
saving your game. You will find three memory spaces. This allows you to
have three memory spaces to save your game. Note that the VMU [memory
card] must be located inside the 1st controller. To continue the game,
just select the [Load and Start] option in the main screen. Here is an
ASCII art of the Save Screen

It will take me quite a long time to get the correct translations. And
thanks to a fellow FAQ writter, I have finally solved my doubts.

Well, sorry for the wrong information [it was my mistake ^_^;]. This
menu actually allows you to build up the Experience level as you proceed
onto the game. It will be best to focus on the Throw moves as it is
rather difficult to master. After all, it takes quite a lot of time and
you just have only Fuk-san to train with Ryo at the dojo. To have the
skill that you want to improve on, just press (A) at the skill and a
red border will highlight over that technique.

Notes about Teleporter
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Shenmue, it will takes a long time to proceed to the other area. But
there is an easier method and that is to use the Teleporter. With this,
Ryo will be teleported to the desired destination. Just move to the door
of the main house of Hazuki and you will see the following options
appearing at the top left-hand corner.
[ Dobuita ]
[ Sakuragaoka ] [ Yamanose ]
[Hazuki's Frontyard]
At the beginning of the game, you can't use the teleporter. The
teleporter will be only enabled after you had gotten the message that
says Ryo should proceed to Dobuita to find out about the black car,
which is given by one of his neighbours, Yamagi-san. [Refer to
walkthrough for more details].
------------------------------------------------------------------------
70 Men Battle
This is one of secrets of Shenmue! It allows you to replay the 70 men
battle. To gain excess to this feature, you MUST had completed the game
and SAVE the completed file. Next to play this feature, you must load
it from Disc 3. You will have the same 70 men battle except for the
following differences:
- You had only Ryo for this mode. Kishou Chin is not available for this
mode as you had played from the story.
- You need to defeat all 70 guys as soon as possible. It is a time
challenge, where your top score could be upload to the Official
Shenmue website based on the network
ranking. [Well, I can't go into further details from here as mine is
the Asian version.]. Hence refer to other guides that you can find in
GameFAQs about network access.
You will still encounter the 3 bosses of the 70 men battle. Hence just
give your best shot. Once you had selected the option, you will be
brought to the memory file selection screen. Select the saved file and
you will be able to play the 70 men battle!

Ryo's Room
------------------------------------------------------------------------
4 days after the death of Iwao Hazuki, Ryo will start to have a bad
dream of deadly Shouryuu and the death of his dear father...
After the dream [well, we should say nightmare instead, huh?], Ryo is
finally awake. Next just focus on the table of Ryo's room and examine
Ryo's desk. Pick up the SHENMUE tape on the table. Next check the
drawers and you will get the following items:
(how to pick up items, refer to Search Mode under Basic Tutorials)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Items in Ryo's Room

- Top of table: SHENMUE tape
- 1st drawer: Casette Player
- 2nd drawer: A photo which has friends of Ryo including Nozomi

- 3rd drawer: SHENHUA tape.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

there for you to pick up]. You can save your game by examine Ryo's bed

that your "brother", Fuk-san wishes to see you. She will also inform
Ryo that the letter containing the money, will be placed at the

Wow! What a big house!! There is nothing found within the Study Room.
But you still can examine the cupboards. Check Fuk-san's room where you
will find a poster of Virtua Fighter. On his table, you will find a
move scroll which allows Ryo to learn the "[L](Y)+(A)" move. Now move
to the Ine-san's room. You will find a Family Photo on the right drawer
of the purple-pink colour furniture. At the living room, there are not
much interest there, except you can find a pack of C-sized batteries
[found within the closet] along with a SEGA Saturn found under the TV
set. I think you can use it once you have gotten a SEGA Game in the
lucky draw. [You can only win two games from lucky draws at Tomato
Marts, Hang On or Space Harrier. These two games can also be played at
the Game YOU Arcade Center but you need to pay 100 yen for each play.]
At the kitchen, if you examine the table, you will have a flashback
where Iwao asking young Ryo to eat more. [*Sob* What a lovely scene...]
Next, move towards to the Master Room. You will find a letter being
addressed to Ryo. Next examine the drawer of the table and you will
find a grey box. Examine the grey box and you will be able to find an
old key. Now move to back the room and you will find a basket at the
alleyway. Examine it and you will find a scroll that allows Ryo to
learn the "<-, ->,-> (X)" move. At the Altar room, examine left of the
Altar and you will find a box of matches. Next search the cupboard and
you will get a blue box containing candles. BTW, you can pay your
respects to the tablet of your late father, which can be found at the
altar. [use First person View Mode to view at the tablet and the
sequence will happened shortly.]
........................................................................
Special Sequence!! - Iwao's Letter
Hmm.. actually this sequence will be pretty useless if you don't know
Japanese ^_^;). You can have only this sequence of Ryo reading the
letter, before you have the flashbacks at the table/tree. You must also
haven't gotten the Old Key. Typically, Ryo will just examine the letter
and you will hear Iwao's speech. The letter is found at Iwao's table.
........................................................................
Err.. finally, you are done and get ready to proceed to the dojo to meet
up with your father's disciple, Fuk-san. Search the left side of the
closet and you will find a torch. On the right, is the phone directory
book. Note that you can find a packet of fish in the kitchen's sink and
a bottle of milk in the fridge the next day. Now exit the house.

Feeding the kitten

Left Option: Feed the kitten with some twig-like grains [someone told

Right Option: Feed the kitten with the biscuit.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Choose the left option, as the kitten refuses to eat the biscuit. If
you have gotten the milk and a packet of food, you can feed the cat
with it anytime. [applies only after the above sequence]. Just simply
press (Y) button and choose the packet food [4 servings] or the milk to
feed the cat.
If you press (A) at the cupboard box/kitten, you will be given the

About Sakuragaoka
Well, before things becomes rather tough for you, I guess it will be
better to add a map of this part of the town for you. Sakuragaoka is
already quite complex when you first started this game, so you need to
be more patient, don't hesitate to explore the surroundings. It is still
a residents area except it has a Sakuragaoka Park and a Grocery Store
called "Ah Pu's Store". Be sure to visit Sakuragaoka Park during night

Now you will find the paths splitting three ways, the center of the
T-junction is marked by the telephone booth. Just walk straight from
the booth and you will find Ah Pu's Store where in front is a vendor
machine and two "gotcha-gotcha" machines [Virtua Fighter series and
Sonic the Hedgehog series]. All of them costs 100 yen per try. As for
the vending machine, don't you ever overlook it! You may get a can of
drink with a picture of Shenhua Rei... which is a collectible item! BTW,
that depends on chance and luck. If you buy an item from Ah Pu's Store,
make sure it is related to Shenmue or Shenhua Rei as it allows you to
get a chance to win a lucky draw. Prizes are really attractive but they
are rather hard to get.
If you have feed the cat using the left option, you will find an old
lady saying that she's lost. She has bad eyesight and would be pleased
if you could find the house for her. Head to the park and go to
opposite side and press (A) to check the door sign [there is a name tag
on the right side of each door.. marked [5] on the map.].
Now proceed to the Sakuragaoka Park and you will have a short sequence
between the two. Next, you will have a cutscene where Ryo accompanies
the old lady to the house.
For those who have choose to feed the kitten with the biscuit, you
need to get a second clue. Talk to the lady whom is sweeping the floor
outside the Sakuragaoka Park and she is wearing a pair of spectacles.
She will refer you to ask Yamagi-san.
So who's this Yamagi-san? He is an old man dressed with a blue jacket
and has a bald-top. He lives in one of the bungalow and loves to tend
to his trees in his garden. You will find his house on the left of the
man whom is maintaining his bike. [well, it is marked by [2] and *
respectively.] Talk to him and he will tell Ryo that he should proceed
to Dobuita to look out for more clues. Just proceed to the left from Ah
Pu's Store and you will find a signboard that says "Dobuita". It is
located on the right of the park. [marked E1 on the map.]

After the QTE, both of them will start to run away from Ryo Hazuki. Now
you have entered Warehouse District. This place is extremely huge and
confusing for beginneers. It took me quite a long time to get used to
it. There are a couple of places of interests. You can find a Tomato
Mart [which sells new casette tapes] plus a corner where you can find
"gotcha-gotcha" machines, a Darts 7 machine along with the SEGA
Neo-Darts. Plus there is also a workers' canteen on the right.
You need to look for the Warehouse No. 8 as it was being given by the
mysterious guy on the phone. Next proceed to Warehouse No. 8 [Examine
the floor carefully as it also indicates marks, where do the track leads
to.] You can also find a map found in the area where those cranes are.

[note that the flashlight you have used earlier in the hide-and-seek
sequence will not be available.], you can buy it from Tomato Mart or
find it in the closet where you find the phone in Ryo's House. Okay,
get some matches and candles. [Candles is found in one of drawers at

found in Ine-san and at the alleyway of the master's room.] Open it and
you will get an old photo about Ryo's father along with an old friend.
Note that there is a trunk which is directly opposite of the entrance of
the small room. Pick up the book and a feather will drop out. Next
proceed and look at the small mirror. There is a piece of paper being
sticked on one of its legs. Note that there are the tracks of distortion
on the ground and it seems there is something behind the cupboard. Press
(A) to cause Ryo to drag away the cupboard. Next you will find a
strange part of the wall. Get the axe found near the cupboard where you
get the manual. Use it on the wall and Ryo will get the Phoenix Mirror,
which is found inside the box. Now you are done, it's time to get out
from the area. You will have a cut-scene with Fuk-san. He will tell you
to proceed and get advice from the townfolks. Now move Sakuragaoka Park
[remember the park located left of A Pu's Store?]. There you will find
Yamagi-san. He will refer to you to Gao Wen's grandmother at Roshiya.
At Roshiya Pottery Shop, you will have a cool cutscene regarding the
Phoenix and Dragon Mirror. It is actually somewhat closely related to
stars. Catch a glimpse of Shenhua Rei for the first time. [not actually,
as you can enjoyed free movies from the passport disc.]
Proceed to the Antique Shop and Ryo will show the Mirror to the owner
of the Antique Shop. Next he will tell Ryo to look for the guy in black
and white checkered shirt at Suzume Park located back of Game YOU. Now
look for him and he suggest that you need to proceed to the Warehouse
District and look for Chintaijin, the old man in red mafia suit.
Hence board a bus and get back to the Warehouse District Area. Proceed
to the telephone booth located near the entrance. Dial in the following
number 0468-61-5647 and you will need to answer some questions [same as
before, except that some of the options is being shifted.]
1st Prompt: Right option
2nd Prompt: Left option
Now proceed to the area where you find Tomu. If the time is quite early
before 7 pm, kill some time or explore the area on your own. Proceed to
the right of Tomu and attempt to the Warehouse Area. This time, the
guard will let you enter. Proceed to Warehouse No. 8. Now you will met
up with Chintaijin and his bodyguard.. Unexpectedly, a strange guy
appears and starts to dash forward...
He snatched the Phoenix Mirror away. Press <-- during QTE and Ryo will
retrieve back the mirror. (who is this guy?). Chintaijin will tell Ryo
that he has to proceed to Hong Kong to find out the truth why Shouryuu
want these two pieces of antique mirror.. BTW, since he is there, so
you need to head there to seek revenge. ^_^;

Getting The Ticket to Hong Kong
------------------------------------------------------------------------
At a flick of an eye, Ryo will be back at his house once again, look
for Fuk-san in his room. Now it is bedtime and Ryo will have a dream of
the Shenmue Girl: Shenhua Rei..
In the morning, Ryo will open up his drawer and check his bank book and
take out approximately 36,512 yen! [My account rises from 3150 yen to
39,662 yen.]. Note that from now on, you can't spend any part of the
money [Want to know why? Hmm... it is logical as you got to save money
for the ticket to Hong Kong ^_^;].
Now proceed to the Fuk-san's room and you will have a cutscene, between
him and Ine-san. Next it's time to find out the cost of the ticket. Now
proceed to Dobuita. There are two agencies in Dobuita. Note that you
could still collect your regular 500 yen salary.
First of all, let's go to the World Tour Agency, which is directly
opposite Tomu's cart in the beginning of the game. Proceed inside and
the man will give Ryo a phamplet. [Gosh! The ticket cost 198,000 yen!]
Hmm.. check out the other agency, which is opposite the florist that
Harasaki is working at. Proceed inside Aja Travel Agency. This time, the
price of the ticket is much reasonable.. 158,000 yen.
Well, head back home to report to Fuk-san. He is at his room. Now here
comes a sad part and that's Fuk-san giving you money by smashing his
piggy bank [*sob*] and it will nab a total of approximately 79,796 yen.
This seems that it is still not enough, which means Ryo got to debate
with the owner of Aja Travel Agency.
Talk to Harasaki before entering the Aja Travel Agency. She says that
once her relative has travel by boat to Canada. Now the owner will give
Ryo a cheap offer of 69,000 yen and of course, it is by boat! However,
Ryo need to pay a deposit of 50,000 yen. She will tell Ryo that the
ticket will be ready tomorrow.
I guessed it will be better to save your game and find a place to
practice as a tough fight is coming soon. Try to build up your attacks.
Once it is about 8 pm, head back home and enjoy a cut-scene between Ryo
and Fuk-san.
The next day, returned back to Aja Travel Agency.. Ryo will find that
the agency is infested with thugs instead of the owner.. They will say
that owner will be back tomorrow. So that means you have another day to
kill. Try to practice your moves. Once it is near 8 pm, return home and
have another dream sequence regarding Shenhua Rei...
The next day, the Hazukis will received a phone call. Fuk-san says that
there is a phone call for Ryo. It was that strange-looking guy and his
name is Chai. He says that he has the ticket and tell Ryo to be at Game
YOU by 12 pm or it will be finished. BTW, this battle is no kidding...
Proceed to Game YOU. There, you will meet Chai and he will ate up your
ticket [that costs 50,000 yen!!!]. Ryo is furious and this causes a
free battle between Ryo and Chai. He is quite tough as he has a
tendency to attack Ryo's legs. If you lose, Chai will leave the Game
YOU and Fuk-san arrives there on time. Ryo will be back at his home
injured.
(Either you have won or lost...)
Head back to Dobuita. Now proceed to Aja Travel Agency. You will have a
series of QTE that involve the winding street of Dobuita! Absolutely,
this is the best and the longest QTE of the game! As soon as the guy
runs away, the QTE starts.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QTE Event - A chase around Dobuita
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This QTE is extremely long...
Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, (A), Left, Left, Right, Left, (A)
Notes:
- the more falls or accidents you have, the lesser the chances that you
will catch that thug.
- If you accidentally trip on the apples [missing the (A) hits], there
is a high chance of failing to catch the thug. If you fail to do so,
you will have to restart the QTE.
- If you have too many accidents on the winding street, you will miss
the thug before he reaches the main street.
- You will knock into several people such as the man in bar, the Chinese
worker and even some of your friends such as Kurita-san.
- Once you have caught him as (he did not the chance to ran away due to
a van from the path near Game YOU, come near his way.), that's the
end of Disc 2..

Disc 3 Walkthrough
========================================================================
Phew... Finally, I had finished typing out the Disc 2 walkthrough and
finally reached Disc 3. The lack of updates from the previous version
1.0 is partially due to this section. There is a lot of "sequences"
that requires timing in order to trigger it. But it is a lot more fun
compared to the previous discs. It has a couple of great events such as
the Forklift races, work at the warehouse district by transporting
crates, more free battles and great QTEs. Plus a few hidden stuffs
including 70 men battle.

Back to Warehouse District - Finding clues about Mad Angels...
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, you will have a cut-scene of Ryo beating up the villian into a
pulp while at the Aja Travel Agency. [This is from my point of view. I
think that the entire travel agency is fake!] Finally, the thug [his
name is Jimmy] revealed that Ryo that he can gathered some clues at
the warehouse district about the missing lady boss and he is from the
Mad Angels gang. After the cut scene, proceed towards the florist where
Harasaki is and have a short conversation. Now you need to proceed to
the Warehouse District to gathered up the clues. Below is an edited map
which is meant for Disc 3.
For this edited map, you will see new words/symbols being added to the
area. Note that the entire warehouse district will be use as the racing
circuit. Hence try to get familiar with the area. You will find a couple
of the maps for the district at the following locations:
1) Opposite Alpha Warehouse, where Ryo will registered for his job.
2) Near Warehouse No. 1
3) Near the Tomato Mart

Map C covers the abandon harbour and the Warehouse No. 12 to 17. I will
try my best to add in Map C for the Warehouse District for the next
update. BTW, it also includes an area reserved by a gang known as the
Mad Angels.
Head towards the bus stop and paid a bus fare of 160 yen. Once you have
reached the Warehouse District, you need to wonder around until 2 pm.
Spend time talking to the people there and most of them tell you that
Ryo should meet a guy called Goro who knew everything about the
warehouse district. You need to talk to ladies [not the lady selling
snacks or at the Tomato Mart] and workers.
Proceed to the Warehouse No. 13, which is behind Warehouse No.1, once
it is around 2 - 3 pm. You will meet Goro and he is quite a funny lad.
He has worn a purple shirt with a clown and a teal-coloured jacket.
Besides a distinguish hairstyle, he also has a never-stop-laughing
behaviour... He will tell Ryo to meet him at Warehouse No. 1 tomorrow
at noon, 1200 hrs.
Note: To trigger this scene, you must not be at the CS Area. You must
proceed towards it from another area.
Hence there is nothing much to do besides killing time. Just return home
or proceed to the Tomato Mart to play "gotcha-gotcha", Neo-Darts and
Darts 7. If you want to have more fun, return to Dobuita to play Hang On
or Space Harrier.
For those who intend to get home, you need to pay an additional 160 yen
for the bus fare. Proceed to the kitten shrine where Ryo will have a
cut-scene on the condition of Mimi. If you have taking care of the
kitten, you will see Harasaki coming in with a can of cat food.
Just proceed home and sleep. Remember to save your game, for it is every
hard to trigger the Goro scene. Once again, it is a full moon with the
mysterious Shenhua Rei...

A Day at The Warehouse District - Ryo's hired!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now you need to get the Warehouse District from Yamanose to Sakuragaoka
and eventually to Dobuita. From Dobuita, you need to take the bus [BTW,
the bus service is loop, i.e. it is a one-way travel route]
Just proceed to Warehouse No. 1 in the district and wait there at noon.
[1200 hrs] BTW, it does not matter whether you go there at 1200 hrs
sharp. Just be there around by 2 pm will be fine. A cutscene will
trigger between Ryo and that hyperactive talkative Goro along with his
girlfriend. Now they will tell Ryo that he could register for work
through the foreman at the Alpha Warehouse. Refer to the map 7.1a found
at Section 7.1 for its exact location.
Proceed to the Warehouse. Note that there is a small door on the right
side of the Warehouse. Enter via that entrance. Ryo will meet a foreman
where he will take Ryo for a short walk to the area between Warehouse
No. 1 to 11. It is marked by "TG". There, he will introduced Mark, an
Amercian who will teach Ryo on how to ride a Forklift. Practise hard!
* Note: It is not necessary to get all of them done but if you managed
to get them done, you get 3000 yen instead of 2000 yen!

Mark will teaches Ryo in the following sequence:
1) Press (D-Pad) Left to turn the wheels left
2) Press (D-Pad) Right to turn the wheels right
3) Press [R] or Right Trigger to go forwards and press (X) to brake.
4) Press [L] or Left Trigger to go backwards and press (Y) to brake.
5) Press (A) to move the forklift's lever.
6) Next with the lever lowered at the lowest end. Press (A) to lower
it and make contact with the crate. Press (A) to lift it up. Use the
forklift and move into Warehouse No.3. Place/lower the lever within
the white squares. You need to press (A) twice.
7) Next take another crate and place it on the existing crate. Make
there is no contact or your forklift will get jammed. Press (A) to
stack on the crate. This makes a double stack. BTW, you can also
switch between the first person view mode and third person view mode.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once the time reaches 5 pm, you will be brought to the foreman's office
[aka. Alpha Warehouse] and get your pay.
Wait around 7 pm and proceed back to Alpha Warehouse. Eventually, you
will have a cutscene of the homeless guy being harassed by the Mad
Angels [For those who has visited their hideout at the deserted harbour
area, you should know about them...]
Seeing this, Ryo decides to stop them... Next the one of Mad Angels
gang members will challenge Ryo to race on a motorbike. You will have
a QTE on the race!

Press Left to move away from enemy's motorbike
Press Right to dodge away from the enemy's attack.

After the QTE Event, there is nothing much to do but to go home. Hence
proceed to the bus-stop. If you have sufficient time, rush back to
Sakuragaoka or you may missed this fantastic sequence! Back at the
Sakuragaoka Park, Ryo will find a crying Harasaki and there will be
a chit-chat between the two. Harasaki-san is moving to Canada and she is
really upset about this. [Watch it for yourself!]
You should back at your home. Save your game and it's bedtime. Zzzz...

As Mark is the judge, he will start the race. You need to take 3 laps
to the finish the race. Ryo's forklift [no.5] will always be at the 5
position. Hence, you need to squeeze your way in to the top. There are
a couple of obstacles and they can range from small winding roads [
which requires you to make a sharp turn]. If you hit an object and find
out that you can't move forward, press [L] to move back along with the
Left wheel or right wheel turn. Press and hold [R] to proceed. Release
[R] to reduce speed. To be more efficient in driving, head for the
extreme edge before making a turn. It helps to reduce the number of
knocks on crates and walls.

| . | is a huge presence in difficulty to make that turn.
Whereas the above method, you still can proceed at
top speed...
TIP: Make use of the barriers as an indicator when to turn. They are
marked with turning arrows.
BTW, I am not quite good at this sort of stuff. Even though, I use the
above method, there are still chances that I still got jammed up ^_^;.
Hence, the best way for effective racing is practice [gosh.. I really
need a lot of them] and experience [for those whom frequently visits
the arcade centers to play racing games, this should not posed much a
problem for you, But it is really an headache for me ^_^;)]
------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are a total of 5 races in the game. Hence, treasure every time you
got one. After every race, Mark will give your a toy model of the
forklift marked with the position as your certificate.
Next, Mark will give Ryo a short illustration of transporting the goods
to another area. He also handles Ryo the map. You need to transport the
good from the current location to Warehouse No. 18

Well, this is quite simply and you just need to work until 1200 hrs,
where it will be lunch time. Once it is noon, you will have a cut-scene
where Mark get interrupted by two thugs. Ryo go to help Mark and
eventually this leads to a free battle with. Note that this free battle
is really tough.
Now with the remaining time before 2 o'clock, you can kill some time by
visit the Tomato Mart or converse your fellow work mates. Once it is
time, Ryo will start to resume his work.
Continue loading until it's around 3 to 4 pm, you will get another
cutscene. Three thugs come in and note that they call Ryo, "boy". Hence
this leads to another free battle against the three thugs. Defeat them
and resume your work. If you managed to finish loading all the crates,
proceed to Warehouse No. 1. You will get your salary after this at the
office of the Alpha Warehouse. The amount of salary based on the number
of crates that you have loaded. There are a total of 30 crates and each
costs 500 yen. This means if you load all of them, you will get 6000
yen!
After getting the pay, Ryo will get interrupted by the ever- talkative
Goro. Well, he is asking Ryo about his opinions of his first day of
work. Next move left from the Alpha Warehouse towards the back of the
Tomato Mart and you will have another cutscene. It was a sneak attack
by the bodyguard. The bodyguard reveals his name and his name was Shou.
He will ask Ryo about a thing or so and decides to teach Ryo a new
move. Choose the left option and he will demostrates for you. Press
<-- , (A) and you will learn a new move. Press left to continue
practising it. Note that you can only practice up to the maximium of
3 times. After finishing practising, Ryo will have a short chit-chat
with Shou. Now you could choose to linger around or head home. Just
wander around until it is around 8: 30 hrs and return back the empty
area in front of the Tomato Mart. Guess what? it's another cutscene
and Ryo will meet up with the homeless guy. He will taunt Ryo to hit
him and surprisingly, Ryo just can't hit him! He is a great sensei!
Choose the Left option to learn a new technique from him. Just press
Forward + (B) + (Y) to excute this dodging move. You can practice for
another couple of times.
Note that Ryo can only leave the Warehouse District at 9 pm. Hence if
you have any extra time, try to kill it by buying items [to get the
games], collect your "gotcha-gotcha" toys or play Neo-Darts.
But if you have time, try to rush to the MJQ Bar and you will be allowed
to play pool and this time is free.
After you are done, if you got time try to kill it and head back home.
Save your game. It is another dream sequence and this time is about the
Phoenix Mirror.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
This part of the game is considered rather tricky. At first, I thought
that you move all the crates [which is considered nearly impossible.]
hence you can procceed on...
Enough blabbling... Time to work at 7:30pm. It is another Forklift Race.
This time, you should be more experienced. Hence, aim to get a better
standings.
After Mark praise for Ryo's performance, it's time to work! This time
the spot has moved from the Old Warehouse District area to the area in
front of the Tomato Mart. You need to take the goods to Warehouse No.

As you see from the map, the route is definitely becomes longer and
tougher to move around. There will be a series of contact between Ryo's
forklift and other members' forklift. Besides you are not limited to use
the map's path. It is your free will to take the path that you desired.
BTW, the path between Warehouse No.1 and Warehouse No. 2 tends to get
jammed before 12 o'clock. Hence it will be more advisible to to take
my designed path. Of course, you can choose not to follow it. Just
continue working until 12. Next you will have a cutscene of the workers
having lunch in front of the warehouse next to the Alpha Warehouse.
Proceed to the front of Alpha's Warehouse and wait for Goro to pass by
the vicinity. [It's mark G on the map.] Talk to him until you no longer
sees the red (A) at the lower right hand corner of the screen [BTW,
watch his expressions. Ryo is questioning him about the Mad Angels!]
*Important Note!* This has been tested by me for a couple of times and
they always give me the same results! If you still

Now it's time to proceed to meet your sensei, Ojii-san. [Hey! who do you

you will get a note for your notebook. Now there is nothing much to do

After defeating those thugs, continue with your work until 5 pm. Collect

find out that Mark is being brutally beat up the Mad Angel Gang. Ryo
decides to stop this and have a 1-on-5 combat with them. After defeating
the thugs, Ryo will have a short talk with Mark near the crane near
Warehouse No. 14. After the cutscene has finished, proceed back to the
Tomato Mart area where you will meet up with Ojii-san under the
staircase found on the right side of the building. He will teach Ryo a
new technique indirectly. [If you choose to learn the dodge move, left
option for the first occurence. However, if you pick to choose the right
option for the first occurence, He will give Ryo a training session.]
Talk to him once again and get another note for your notebook. There is
now nothing much to do but to return. Therefore, have fun at the Game
YOU or have a game of billards [not the entire game! But only a portion
of game...] Or you can have a sequence with Harasaki. Note: You can only
exit the Warehouse District area until it's 9 pm. [BTW, you need to meet
up with Harasaki's friend, she is just outside Game YOU..]
Once back at home, it's bedtime and awaits for next day...
* If you did not talk to Goro, you will have to repeat everything here
once again from the beginning of section 7.4. But it is good if you
still want to have fun working in the Warehouse District.

Day 3: The Chase for Mad Angels!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once again, it's the third time for a forklift race! As usual, aim for
a better position. After the race is done, Mark will award Ryo with his
reward [another toy model based on your position]. Now proceed back to
work. Once again, you need to take the crates to Warehouse No. 18 but
you are located at the extreme end of it. You will start from the area
in front of Warehouse No. 8. BTW, don't follow the stupid route given
on the map for you need travel across the back area of the warehouses.
Once again, here is the map to help you.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hmm.. it will be nuts to follow the return route given on the map. You
will definitely waste a lot of time on proceed-and-back trips. Hence,
stick to the "..." route for both proceed-and-back trips. Just use only
one route.
This is rather a nice day as compared to the previous two days. Hence,
proceed onto until lunch time at 12 noon. Ryo will once again has his
lunch with other fellow companions. Next guess what Harasaki along with
her friend comes along with her friend. Harasaki wants to keep a memento
of a photo of her and Ryo only. Harasaki's friend just simply take two
shots and hands on the photo [it's an automatic type...]. You will be
given the chance to pick either one of them.
Photo 1: Ryo and Harasaki standing apart [Left option]
Photo 2: Ryo and Harasaki standing close to each other [Right option]
For my first try, I have pick Harasaki and Ryo standing close to each
other and speech doesn't sound too good... After the cutscene, you are
free to wander around in the vicinity. As for me, I will try my luck
out to win the prizes at the Tomato Mart. (well.. I guess I need to
blame on luck...)
Once it's 2 pm. Continue back to the work. Hopefully, that you can
deliever as many as possible as this batch of cargo cost a lot! You can
get a lot of cash! After you have finished your work, you need to meet
up with the Mad Angels Gang in the area in front of the Tomato Mart.
Actually, the day before, Ryo has tell them that he wants to meet
their leader. Just wander around the Warehouse District area until it's
7 pm. The lights will come out and proceed to the small area in front of
the Tomato Mart and have a cutscene with Mad Angels Gang on their
motorbikes!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QTE Event - The Bike Chase
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This event just sounds as good as the heading that I have given to it.
It was really awesome! Ryo will meet up with 3 of Mad Angels' members
and they decide to run their bikes over Ryo!
Press <--, -->, (A)
You need to dodge the thugs attack by moving left and right. Press (A)
to hit the third one off his bike. If you did not do that, it will
restart the QTE. Once Ryo gets onto the bike, it's time to rock'n roll!
While chasing down at the Warehouse District...
<--, <--, (A)
Press left twice to move away from the enemy's bike. Once you're hit,
you have to restart QTE again. Next press (A) to hit the enemy off his
bike. [If you did not do this... you need to restart this QTE.]
Now you need to chase the reminding biker..
-->, -->, -->, <--, <--, -->
Press Right, Right, Right to dodge and make turns around the warehouses.
Press left to move away from the crate. If you are hit in the process,
you need to restart all over again. After dodge from hitting on the
crate, you will see 2 arrows key [one is facing left and the other is
facing right] take the path, the enemy is using. Press Left to follow
and you will experience this sequence again and this time take the right
path. If you took the wrong path, you need to restart this event all
over again.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Well, it finally ends for this awesome bike QTE. You will find out that
Ryo has ended in the area where Warehouse 15 to 17 are located. They
says that "Rantei" is their boss [That guy is Shouryuu! The villian who
killed your father!] Ryo need to combat with 5 of the guys there...
note that leader looks familiar... Defeat the five thugs and the leader
will challenges Ryo on a 1-to-1 battle. It's Charlie! Defeat him and he
says that "Rantei" and Mad Angels are not going to give up so easily...
After the event is over, head back home [Remember that it must be after
9 pm so that you can exit the Warehouse District!] Save your game.

.. The Route
xx Cargo Spot
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This time is much tougher as compared to previous assignments. You need
to pass through several cargo sites before you can reached the
destination. The horn is an emergency and you really need to use it. [
Press Up to ask fellow forklift drivers to move away..] Just keep on
loading until you have lunch break. Once again, you are back at the
corridor, along with your workmates. Now you are free to move around in
the district. Hence, visit the Tomato Mart and has some fun! After 2pm,
you will resume your work. At about the way between the cargo site and
Warehouse 1, you will have a cutscene of Goro being beaten up by the
Mad Angels. Ryo chases them and eventually is led to a warehouse where
he is being surround. Time for a QTE!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QTE - A wrestling match inside the Warehouse
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
(B), (A), (B), (A), ->, Down, (A)
In this area, you will have Ryo making use of barrels to beat the thugs
into pulp. So that means you get the chance to see a couple of cool
actions scenes between Ryo and the thugs. But remember if Ryo is being
hit too many times [about 3 consecutive times], you will need to
restart the QTE. Hence it is a test on your reflexes.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Now it's time to resume your unfinished assignment... After the work,
Ryo will get his pay and have a cutscene with Mark. After the cutscene,
exit and return home [once again, you can only return home after 9 pm.]
But you can also learn another technique from Ojii-san [->, ->, (Y)+(B)]
BTW, if you have time, try to practice your skills.

of one. There are two different types of cargo. The map (below)

xx Cargo Spot
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
For this assignment, you need to bring the first set of cargo marked
"XX" and bring it to Warehouse 8 [marked "IN"]. Next take the cargo
placed in OUT and take to Warehouse 18. Just repeated the above
procedure. Next you will have your 2-hour break as usual. You should
have a cutscene with Goro and his girlfriend, they are tying the knot!
Just keep loading and eventually you will have another cutscene in the
area found in front of the Tomato Mart. Ryo approaches them in the
forklift and they ran away. It is a chase!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QTE: The Chase at the Warehouse District
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
<-, (B), (B), (A)
The first four QTE is compulsory and you will have the option of
chasing the guy dressed in white or purple... I would opted for the
guy in purple as he is running towards a dead end ^_^;)
->, ->, (B), (A), ->, <-
This QTE sequence just applies to the guy dressed in purple. As the guy
dressed in white, I will try to add it for the next update.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
After Ryo has caught the thug, he will get to know who the leader of
the Mad Angels is... This time, you will get your final pay from the
foreman at the Alpha Warehouse. Next you will back at the Old Warehouse
No. 8 where Ryo will meet up with Chintaijin and Kishou Chin.
After the cutscene, you are free to go back to home. Hence, make
necessary preparations for the upcoming battles.

The Midnight Rampage
========================================================================
Ryo will be awake at the 11:30 and he will meet Ine-san at the walkway
outside his room. (Or Ryo will be back from the door, if you choose to
stay out and he will meet Ine-san at the walkway at 11:30). In 11:45pm,
Ryo will received a call from a stranger... guess what!? Harasaki has
been kidnapped! Now Ryo decide to seek the meeting at 3:00 am at
Warehouse 17 (which is found near Mad Angel's hideout).
Now proceed to Dobuita and take the bus. Unfortunately, the bus does
not provide services during this time... (hey! You need to move
towards the bus stop, or you can't carry on with the story). Now Ryo
need to find another form of transportation...
Proceed to Yokosuko Japan Knocking Bike Maintence Shop found at the
night streets. Now proceed to the door and press (A). There Ryo will
have a chat with the owner and the owner will recommed Ryo to visit
a person [not sure what his name is..] and he will allow Ryo to use
his bike.
Now proceed back to Sakuragaoka and proceed to the bike found near
A-Pu's Store. Move towards the building, that is located at the
back of the house. Next Ryo will meet up with the owner [Nikokiri] and
you will get the bike. Well, it's time to have a ride!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bike Race
------------------------------------------------------------------------
[R] Trigger --> Accelerate
[L] Trigger --> Brake
D-Pad or Analog Stick --> Turn
This section occurs while on the expressway and you will get to see the
humps and streetlights of Yokosuka. You will see barriers located on
side of the track. [Hmm.. this makes it more like a racing circuit]
Unlike the previous races, you will have to race against time. You have
just 2 minutes to reach the final destination. If you have seen the
underway passage, you are quite close to the Warehouse District. BTW, if
you want to defeat this section fast, try to keep your speed between
120 km/h and 160 km/h. If you have failed, you will have restart from
the renting bike sequence.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
There you will have a cool cutscene where Ryo rides the motorbike into
the Warehouse District. Finally he is at the front gate of the Mad
Angels. Next you will have a free battle with 6 Mad Angel thugs. After
defeated them, Ryo will enter the hideout and you will have to fight
another 5 thugs. After you have defeated them, you will meet up with
Terry [the leader of the Mad Angels] and Harasaki will be freed. Now
you will have a romantic cutscene of Ryo taking Harasaki home on the
motorbike...

========================================================================
A Fair Competition...
========================================================================
The next day, Ryo have flashbacks of Iwao wielding the katana while at
the dojo. Next Ryo will be back at the warehouse and he will have a
short chat with Tomu at his Hot Dog cart. Next Ryo will proceed to the
Alpha Warehouse and meet up with the foreman. Now proceed back to
Tomu's Hot Dog Cart and you will have a cutscene with Tomu delivering
a powerful turning-kick. Pick the left option to learn the move and he
call it the Tornado Kick! [toward, toward+(A), (A)]. You need press the
second toward along with the (A) button or you will fail. Just keep on
practicing as this move is a really useful technique. Next the usual
hyperactive Tomu will start to turn quiet. He's heading back to
America...
Next you will have a meeting with a member of the Mad Angels [I
thought he was Shou as they look so alike...]. Later, Ryo will meet
up with Kishou Chin and they will have a duel. It's a Free Battle!
This free battle is special as the actions comes so automatic like a
movie fight... They will speak too each other like rivals. Once you
are down to the end of the fight, both of them get double KO.. [err..
I just can't find another word to replace it ^_^;]. After the battle,
you will have a scene which switches to Terry and he is about to
assault Shou!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QTE: Save Shou!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
->
Ryo will just pushes away Shou from danger. If you don't do this in
time, Shou's going to die. [If you failed, you just have to restart!]
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Now the situation become worse and 70 men of the Mad Angels will attack
both Ryo and Shou. It is another sub-game of Shenmue.. the 70 Men
Battle! Your objective is to knock out every 70 men down. There are
three sub-bosses here and they are quite strong. Shou helps out in
this area but he will not offer help against the final boss.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
About 70 Men Battle
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The battle is just like the free battle mode except you will fight
against 70 men. You will see Ryo's health meter placed at its usual
spot and the commands is the same as the Free battle. But this is not
all. Some of them have weapons and you can slam your opponents onto
crates. This is similar to Streets of Rage that you can play in your
SEGA Mega Genesis...
- Not all 70 men will appear at the same screen [otherwise, you don't
have many space...]. You will start off the fight with 6 men and Shou
will be helping you. Just defeat them and another men will come to
replace the fainted member. Note that you can move from one area to
another.
- Most of the enemies can be knocked out by 3-kick combo [just press
(A), (A), (A)], exceptions are the sub-bosses. The sub-bosses are
quite tough as they take a longer time to knock out. BTW, the camera
will switches to them when it's time for them to enter.
- Your health meter can regenerate if Ryo gets sufficient rest. It
takes some time to recover. Running is one method, but it will tire
Ryo out. Hence, try to wait for opponents to approach you and kick
them off, instead approaching them!
- The first sub-boss dressed in an army outfit [similar to Kurita-san],
but he is not tough as you can easily knock him out with your combos.
Try to go for kicks and punches, instead of throws.
- The second sub-boss is the one that I have mistaken him for Kishou
Chin. He is carrying a wooden stick [or baseball bat..]. You can't
knock out the weapon from his hands. Hence, kicks will be a better
option as compared to the punches. The dodging moves that you have
learn from Ojii-san comes quite handy against this fella.
- The boss is really a mean guy. He is huge and strong. He loves to come
near Ryo and grab him for slams and throws. Hence, try to avoid his
throws at all costs. They dealt serious damage! Try to keep a distance
from the BOSS. You may need to use the run-and-hit strategy. Just make
him chase for you and give him a good kick. Kicks work well against
this guy. He is quite slow, hence running is quite good.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next you will meet up with the leader of the Mad Angels and you will
have a short QTE [Press (A)]. This followed by a trashing by Kishou
Chin and Ryo gets his required information from the guy.
Now you will be back and home, so it's sleeping time...

Trip to Hong Kong
========================================================================
This is last section of the walkthrough. You will have a long cutscene
of Ryo leaving the house with a backpack. Next he will meet up with
Fukuhara. Ine-san just stands in one corner.. Next you will scenes where
Ryo walk down the streets of Sakuragaoka and Dobuita.
Next at the harbour, Ryo will meet with Chintaijin and Shou. Chintaijin
decides to impart Ryo a new technique [back + (X)]. After you will had
learnt that technique, he will teach you another technique [back
+(X)(A)]
Next he will ask Shou to practice with Ryo. Use the first technique.
Next for the second practice, use the second technique. After you have
learnt both techniques, you will have a farewell bid, unexpectedly
that mad fella has come and attack Ryo.. Shou pushes Ryo away and
received the damage instead. Next Ryo will have to battle against Chai.
It is a free battle. Chai is quite fast and some of his attacks looks
werid yet amazingly powerful. You can't trap him in a corner, but you
can take him away with kicks and some of the punch combos. If you ran,
he will just chase Ryo like a mad dog... [Is he crazy?]. The moment he
gets to the back of Ryo, kick him away at all cost as he can do serious
damage with a special technique.
After you have defeat Chai, the screen will switches to the cutscene
where you find Shourryuu boarding on a yacht. While Ryo's attention is
away from Chai, Chai suddenly attacks Ryo and you will have the last
QTE of the game and perhaps the last of Chai..
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QTE - Defeat
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Down, (A), (A), (B)
If you miss any of them, you just need to restart the entire QTE. He is
just too quick...
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
After Ryo has defeat Chai, you will have a cutscene where Ryo talk to
Chintaijin and Kishou Chin. This is followed by the ending...
It's time to bid farewell, see ya!

This part of town is much more complex compared to Yamanose. You can
find a grocery store called A Pu's Store. The prizes which can be won
there, are not really attractive. You can find a couple of gotcha-gotcha
machines and a vending machine. In this part of the town, you will find
a minor construction site. In addition, there is a telephone booth
located near it. The Sakuragaoka Park is a good place for visiting and
it is great for training.

Collectibles
------------------------------------------------------------------------
It will be nuts to make a list of these items ^_^;. Or it will be like
a "Mission Impossible" for me. I had nearly cracked out my brains to
make translations of the action figurines but there is still no results.
But if there is anyone who can make a list of them, I would be happily
to add them.
Typically, there are four classes of items:
Sonic the Hedgehog Series - You can get all sorts of characters from
that series like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles,
Amy and even Doctor Eggman. Special items
include Super Sonic and the Metallic Sonic.
Virtua Fighter Series - Well, my knowledge about them is quite weak,
but I guess you can get action figurines of
them such as Akira [that's the only
character I know ^_^;]
Vechicle Series - You can get figurines of ships and cars. If
you had compete in the Forklift race, Mark
can give you a Forklift along with a no.
that had stated your position.
Miscellaenous - Typically, I had gotten a series of funny
items such as ball, maze, etc.
To get these items, you can get them by:
1) Buy from Gotcha-Gotcha Machines. [Machines section for more details]
2) Win it as the 5th Class Prize from Lucky Draw.
3) Win it as special class [for the gold figurine], 1st class [for the
silver figurine], 2nd class [model of Yu Suzuki] and 4th class [
exclusive collectibles such as SuperSonic.]. Note taht the special,
1st and 2nd classes are prizes from lucky draw in Ah Pu's store.
To view these items, just select the collectibles item icon. You will
view them in a box, similar the item columnn of the Main Menu. Select
the desired toy to view them.

Arcade Games / Machines
========================================================================
For games that are kinda long, sub-games is great as it helps to kill
time and added more leisure to game. In fact, sub-games also nabs you
items/bonuses. In Shenmue, there is an arcade which adds some of
previous games made by Yu Suzuki such as Hang On and Space Harrier.
There is also a couple of good interesting games such as QTE 2, Darts 7,
QTE Title which will make more leisure to the game.

Where is Game YOU? It is located on the other side of Dobuita where it

operating hours. The operating hours for Game YOU is between 1000 hrs
until 2400 hrs. [10:00 am to 12 midnight]. Outside Game YOU, there are
two gotcha-gotcha machines. If you have managed to complete a game,

also a juke box which allows you to listen to songs.
There is another series of gameplay at the Tomato Mart found in the
Warehouse District, which includes the juke box, Darts 7 and Sega

or rocks. Ocassionally, you will find the bike slightly tilted and
that's a good posture.
- When curving, try to slower the speed by press L button as this helps
to reduce the occurences that you are going to hit into boards.
- Try not to get too closer to your opponents [in fact, you are not
challenging them, instead you are challenging the time!] or your bike
will lose it balance.
- Avoid as many falls as possible. Get a smooth journey and you should
be able to finish the game.
- It will be safer to remain in the main road compared to staying at the
hump [red in colour]
- Once the biker has being knocked off the stage, it will takes a longer
time for he to get back to the game.

Hang On Bike machine. Just examine the machine and press (A). Now you

Pick right option to cancel. Next here are the points chart for the
dart game.
How to play: Just wait for the the correct position and press (A). Note
that there is time lapse for doing this. But it doesn't
matter if you exceed the time. If you exceed, it is just
that you had waste the time bonus.
Objectives
- Your aim is to hit the circle region to get 2nd chance to play the
game. If you managed to get 3 games for the first time, the owner will
give you a model of the game.
- This game is relatively simple compared to Hang On and other games.
Wait for the hand to move around and have the a clear shot. Next press
(A) to hit the desired target.
- If you hit outside the region, you will get no score. If you hit the
center, you will get 20 points. Note that if you hit the red/dark
green region, the points will be doubled. The bull eye's is 50 points.
- If you hit between the borders, you will get a deduction between:
higher points - lower points. Let says if you hit between 20 and 7,
you will get 20 - 7 = 13. Worst when you hit between 20 and 19 which
will give you a score of 1! But fortunately the 20 and 19 are placed
far apart.
- If you have hit the inner red circle, (there are two red circles
right?) you will be get triple! That means if you hit 20, you will get
60 points!
- If you reached 3 games, the game will just end.

- Some signals are very fast [which are quite late in this game], there
is a time bar below which indicates the time limit if you do not hit
the button in time, refer to the paragraph below.
- If you hit the wrong button, watch an annoyed-looking Ryo ^_^; and
watch the red icon disappear one by one.. [you will only given three

This game is simply the best time killer game [varies on how much you
can go biking and how accurate in darts throwing.]. You can insert
multiple tokens [100 yen each, up to the maximum of 9 tokens]. Each
token will give you three lives. Note that you will not restart from

a couple of stages [I haven't beat this before...] and you will need to
fight a BOSS at the end of each BOSSES.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Stage 1 Walkthrough
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You will find obstacles such as coconut trees, bushes and aerial rocks.
The monsters here are quite easy [this also includes the BOSS]. Just
battle your way through the underside the rocks. Move away your
character from the enemy's attack. You can't block their attacks! There
is a group of monsters which will form a triangle formation, you can
only defeat them once they have opened up their torso. The trees and
rocks will cause you to lose your lives easy. But you can shoot down
the trees. The bushes will slow your character down instead. If you got
knocked down three times, you will lose another life.
........................................................................
BOSS Strategy
........................................................................
Boss: Dragon
Dodge the dragon's fire breath attack. Instead try to hit it repeated
with your photon gun. The dragon does not causes damage when it started
to move close your character. Just shoot it a couple of times and the
dragon will turns into solid rock and explode!
........................................................................
As for next few stages, I will be entering it for next update. [It will
applies once I got the game from the lucky draw as I don't feel like
wasting 100 yen for playing at the arcade.]

HELP!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I myself have limited knowledge regarding to Japanese [I'm does not
speak Japanese], there are a lot of things for me to do for import
games. In the past, I guess I have made a whole hell out for my previous
japanese FAQ, Final Fantasy VIII. Of course, I have a couple of
translations mistakes regarding to the game. To avoid history from
repeating, I wished that those who know a bit of Japanese to help me
in translating the movelist and perhaps the dialogues in order to make
this FAQ more readable.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am looking for the following help:
- full translations for the movelists. [CRITICALLY IMPORTANT!]
Otherwise, I will definitely making a whole hell out of it.
- Better translations regarding to shop names?
- Any QTE events that I have missed?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you can provide help for me, please send it to me via e-mail with
Shenmue at the subject field. My e-mail address is
kangning@mbox5.singnet.com.sg

Contact The Author
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This problem has given me much problems from my previous FAQs. I have
tried my best to answer when possible. Also don't ask me questions which
answers can be found in the FAQ. First of all, read the following before
sending an e-mail to Scott:
- remember to add in "Shenmue" as your subject in the subject field of
the e-mail. I have gotten countless e-mails for FF8 and it will help
me if you classified it with the game titles.
- Next state your question as clearly as possible. If I find the e-mail
quite hard to understand, I really don't know how to help it.
- Make sure that words are not in CAPS lock [capital letters], which is
quite rude, anywhere it doesn't matter to me. But try to avoid it
when necessary. Once I got really in a bad mood that I delete all
e-mails that written in CAPS lock..
- If a question is too frequently-asked, I will add it to the FAQ under
frequently-asked questions section.
- Don't expect me to give answers which can be found in the FAQ. Or it
will be useless for me to type it out so concisely.
- If you have problems in locating a shop/building, refer to the Maps
section to settle out those problems. Hopefully, they are readable
^_^;)
- BTW, unlike other FAQ writers, I have only one motive and that's to
help you guys out there by writting the FAQ as concise as possible. [
in order to give the help that I could]. Well, the FAQ can be proved
by judging the amount of e-mails.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most Frequently Asked Questions.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
- READ THIS BEFORE SENDING AN E-MAIL. Well, I do accept complaints and
comments for my FAQs. I would prefer complaints as it allows me to
know what changes can be done for the FAQ. If you have a comments,
free to drop an e-mail. [it helps to urge me on!]
Q: Can I post the FAQ for my website?
A: Sure as long as the following steps are followed:
- the disclaimer, including my name and format of the document is not
altered.
- No changes should not be made to the FAQ.
- No HTMLizing of document unless permission granted from the author,
as this is same as editing the document.
- If you link to GameFAQs, don't link it directly to the FAQ, instead
link it to the Shenmue Walkthrough database at GameFAQs.
- Make sure you made an attempt to update the FAQ.
Q: Where can I get the latest revisions of the FAQ?
A: At GameFAQs. If you want your site to be added to the addresses where
this FAQ can be gotten, you need to seek permission from me.
Q: Can you sent me the FAQ?
A: No. Otherwise, I would not have to post it to GameFAQs. Remember that
this FAQ is a bit too huge to be posted via e-mail. Remember that you
need to get the latest revisions yourself at GameFAQs.
I know that some guys out there have problems in access to Internet
due to personal reasons. But it can't be helped. Anyway, you can
always count on a friend to get it for you. I felt quite sorry for
WebTV users as they can access a maximum of 170 Kbs. Don't worry, I
will try my best to keep this file small. Or I may spilt the FAQ in
separate FAQs.
Q: What other FAQs that you have written?
A: I had written quite a few.. Well, you can check it out at my
Contributor page at GameFAQs.
Q: Why you haven't answered my e-mail?
A: There perhaps may be a few reasons:
- school [I still got tons of assignments/projects/tests]
- the answer can be found in the FAQ [if you haven't received the
e-mail for two weeks]. I always check my e-mails during weekends/
holidays, unless I am really busy for that week.
- Other things may coped up.
Note that if you can't contact me, feel free to contact other FAQ
writers for the particular game. But I will be free most of the time
during school breaks.
- I may be busy playing the game to uncover more secrets.
Q: Could you finished up the walkthrough ASAP?
A: I myself have other FAQs to type and play my other games. Normally,
the delay for a walkthrough is partially due to my doubts about the
game. I need to clear them otherwise, I will be giving false
information. This explains why the release of version 1.1 is so
late, but the FAQ's key item, the walkthrough is already completed.
